More hurricane cleanup shots from this week. I may not have profound commentary on disasters or the ability to express tired platitudes about them, but I can help. So can you. #vistrong #stthomas #usvi #allhands #allhandsandhearts #irmageddon

Day 16: I am grateful for my new back fence. Although I think I am more grateful for the destruction of the original fence because it allowed us to get to know our back neighbors better...and for Em and I to make new friends! #gratitude #thankful #neighbors #friends #newfriends #mendingfences #irmageddon

[this is a post about love. πŸ’™]
getting a message like this from your mama before storm & darkness come. gives me chills & puts a lump in my throat to see it now & to remember the feelings of that night, enormous with such fearful anticipation. oh what this did to a mama's heart ~ & to be loved like this. πŸ’ž my husband slept restlessly, but decently, as we were getting most pounded by irma (a friend said that's one of men's super powers, to be able to sleep through anything, anytime!), but i'd had an awfully tense night, at last drifting off in only the last couple of early morning hours, even as irma raged on ~ i guess from sheer exhaustion, as it's not like i'd gotten comfortable with such winds! when i woke to daylight (at last ... light again! πŸ”†), i nervously opened the curtains to peer outside ~ & saw the miracle that our yard, street & pond (at least in my first initial view) looked fairly, stunningly ... normal. 😦 new messages were waiting, frantic with worry upon seeing all the emergency flash flood alerts for our area, so i immediately tried callin' the mama. we'd lost cell service in the night, but hallelujah ... i got through. the connection was rough, so i had to repeat, but my words were, "mama ~ we are okay. everything is blessedly okay. our neighborhood looks shockingly ... NORMAL." and she burst into tears. which made me do the same.
😭😭
i can't imagine how difficult it's been for puerto rico families to be unable to connect, with no power & phone service. to be sick with worry & not know for so long if your loved ones are okay ~ i just can't fathom that. our mama was beside herself waiting to hear from us, but we were incredibly privileged to get to connect so soon. i wonder if going through events like this is harder for those not here, heartsick with worry over those of us who are, & not knowing how those you love so much have fared. so, this was quite a moment. but oh, all that love. we feel it all the time, from our "mama angel" as we call her. but on this day ... at that moment ...
πŸ’™
it was way bigger than irma.
πŸ’™
and our hearts overflowed well beyond any flooding she managed to create.

she came, she swirled, & she almost conquered.
πŸŒ€
we will never forget 9/11. πŸ’™ but now have another significant reason to remember september 11th. couldn't have imagined this ~ a time when ALL of florida would completely ... i do mean completely ... disappear under one of the most epic hurricanes on record. that would've seemed too apocalyptic to cope with. but cope with it, we all did. irma & maria were unbelievable, & are now infamous. notorious. like katrina, all other hurricanes will be compared to & measured against these behemoth gals. it's truly been something, hasn't it, folks?
πŸŒ€
yep, irma got to me. two months later i can finally talk about her. it helps. so, keeping in mind this is MILD compared to what others endured, here's what that main night was like in our little corner....
β€’
it was a dark & stormy night.
β€’
(i couldn't resist.) but seriously ... very rough & scary. irma's worst hit us from early evening that sunday, all through the night. she finally left monday afternoon. talk about a "long-duration storm event". irma's power was a BIG surprise to us up north. it was abundantly clear we'd get major weather, but we expected a tropical storm by the time she got all the way up here. never dreamed she'd hit us as a
CAT 2 hurricane this far north. the wind gusts were loud & violent as they whipped & slashed against & around our home, shaking everything. it was incredibly unnerving to hear & feel, especially in complete darkness when power was lost & the moon couldn't even shine through. πŸŒ‘ we wanted to witness the storm & stay up & on guard, but went on to bed since we couldn't see a thing. i've been through gnarly storms & some scary L.A. earthquakes, but never anything like this. though not in an evacuation zone, it was so odd & frightening feeling specifically unsafe in our home, & knowing we couldn't leave ~ & we knew we weren't even getting the worst, which freaked us out more! we worried so for everyone. an event like this changes you. shocks your system. but we came out of it intact, mega grateful, & sooo very lucky considering the hard hit, with only minimal roof & neighborhood damage. definitely exhaled a big ol'

We drove to Alabama because we were evacuated due to Hurricane Irma and there were no hotels available for us to stay in. We had to take our cat too... It was a long ride but we met up with a family friend and our parents made sure we had some fun! The people were soooo nice and friendly! Our hotel was AMAZING!

Miami was very fortunate as Hurricane Irma could've been much worse; although many are without power and some modern luxuries we still have our Community. We are always available, in good times and bad, to our customers, vendors and neighbors to provide our knowledge, assistance and expertise as we rebuild our home and Magic City. #hurricaneirma #irmageddon #miami #magiccity #realestate #miamirealtor #community #rebuild #strenghinnumbers #strongertogether #gottajavmiami #remax

Sweet Baby Boy is officially off to New Hampshire where he is scheduled to meet his (hopefully πŸ™) new family, including a new brother, on Sunday. Fingers crossed that the meet goes well and he can finally settle into his forever home. After work hangs with the Linemen from Cayman who were here for about 6 weeks helping to restore power after Hurricane Irma. Tough guys and yet they all admitted when they first landed on island they immediately wanted to go home. We still ain't got power but they helped get things moving in the right direction.
