Surah Al-Asr has three Ayaah (verses). The simple translation of the word Asr that Allah (SWT) uses here would be 'time'. But in reality it gives o far deeper and a far more comprehensive meaning. Not only does it mean time, but it means time that is limited and time that is fleeting and that will end soon.
In the first ayah the word Asr also refers to the time in which we pray our Asr Salah. The importance of this particular Salah and the blessings of the time in which this Salah is prayed. The Ayah in Surah Al-Baqarah where Allah (SWT) has called this the mid-most prayer and He (SWT) has commanded us to be especially careful of guarding this Salah. Narrated Ibn Umar Allah's messenger ﷺ said: "who ever misses the Asr prayer (intentionally), then it is as if he lost his family and property".
Save man from loss is to perform righteous deeds (Salihat). Salihat comprehends all kinds of virtuaus and goo deeds. However, according to the Quran , no act can be a good act unless it is based on faith and it is performed in obedience to the guidance given by Allah (SWT) and his messenger ﷺ.
Which a man must have in order to be saved from loss. They are that the people who believe and do good deeds must advise each other to truth and to patience. Allah (SWT) said in Surah Al-Baqarah "O you who believe seek help through patience and prayer indeed, Allah is with the patient ones". And in Surah Az-Zumar Allah (SWT) said:" those who are patient will surely be given their reward without measure".
Allah promised of success and felicity for those who believe in Him (SWT). With the passage of time humans can find themselves in loss because they rejected Allah's message or failed to live according to it. This Surah is a simple path for success.
