‘Die Lit’ by Playboi Carti is one of the most highly praised albums by the community at the moment. Many people question what is so appealing about this project, because on the surface, it seems like it’s nothing more than your average trap record, with generic lyrics that talk about concepts such as sex and money, and consistent banger-type beats that accompany every track. But if you look closer, you’ll notice that Carti’s repetitive flows and lyrics coupled with his spacey and loopy production create a hypnotic vibe that makes the tracks incredibly engaging and fun to listen to. Minimalism is a key theme in this album, as simple beats, simple flows, simple lyrics, and simple subject matters are coherent throughout its duration, but it’s phenomenal execution is what makes it so great and unique. To an extent, I’d even say that this album is experimental — as the strange vocals, layered ad-libs, and Carti’s ability to make so much out of so little can all be considered elements of experimentation.
