"Panda Village" is the latest offering by the London-based, jazz-fusion band Theon Cross Trio, released yesterday on Spotify and Bandcamp through Gearbox Records. This is their first release since their debut EP, Aspirations, in 2015. Headed by the tuba player and composer, Theon Cross, the trio consists of rising jazz pioneers Nubya Garcia (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet) and Moses Boyd (drums). Cross is also a member of @shabakahutchings' Sons Of Kemet (@sonsofkemet), whose third album, Your Queen Is A Reptile (via @impulserecords), was nominated for a (Hyundai) Mercury Prize this year; as well as a driving force in the South London-based collective Steam Down (@steamdown).

Learn more about the evolving London jazz scene by watching the short documentary 'We Out Here: A LDN Story' on YouTube. It portrays "the people and places which have laid the foundations for London’s fertile jazz scene in 2018. It’s about the renaissance which jazz has experienced over the past few years. The film tells the journey of these young, gifted players, many of whom have trained and come up together, and whose sounds are now becoming an integral part of London’s musical lanscape—as well as representing the city around the UK and the rest of the world." The documentary is accompanied by a compilation of pieces by the featured jazz prodigies, out on Spotify and Bandcamp (via @brownswood).
