When I was painting for my first solo show Avara found some blackout blinds in the street during hard rubbish & thought they would work well as a canvas. I was previously using plywood & cement boards, also found, but was looking for something larger & more versatile
My studio at the time was a tiny bedroom, so this painting occupied our living room floor for about a week until it was finished. I had to stand on a stool to see what needed to be done with it. Everything related to my work has come through a series of events such as these. Whether it be found materials, chance meetings or slow repeated practice, nothing is forced or faked
Contrary to popular belief, I have found that all that is needed comes easy, and all that is not is hard.
