I’m talking about “resort wear” today, per a reader’s request. This is sort of hilarious because, even though I spend months in Scottsdale, which is considered a resort town, the closest I get to one is The Princess when I drive by on my way to Trader Joe’s. So, instead, I’ll be talking about what I consider my warm weather essentials (I even have a sort of spring uniform that will soon become apparent).
First of all, I pretty much live in white jeans (Paige and Madewell are my favorite brands). Then (lately) I add a belt, like this navy blue beauty from JMcLaughlin. The top can be a tee or button up shirt, but this time of year, I always add a sweater or jacket because the temps can drop 15 degrees or more in the evening.
During the day, I’m never without a straw hat (I have quite a collection from Target) and carry a light-colored or wicker bag. And I live in sandals, even if it’s still a bit cool. (Not pictured are a pair of good but not designer sunglasses, usually Ray-Bans.) And that’s my idea of resort wear.
Scottsdale is a pretty casual town, so I seldom see women dressed to the nines here. What I do see, when I’m out shopping, is a lot (I mean, A LOT) of athleisure wear, but it all looks high end. In fact, the other day I saw a young mother pushing a stroller, wearing yoga pants and sneakers—but her backpack was a Chanel. One more thing...if you love dresses, add a blazer or sweater and sandals, and you’ll look like one of the locals.
Now, here’s my disclaimer: if you’re going somewhere tropical, you’re on your own, although I usually wear my Scottsdale uniform (which, come to think of it, is also my Madison summer uniform). What can I say? I’m not a big fan of Lilly Pulitzer. (And I have the nerve to call my style preppy!)
I hope this is helpful. Tomorrow I’ll show the new wicker bag in more detail, along with a few other spring accessories. In the meantime, help me out and tell me what you consider resort wear. Have a great Tuesday, my lovelies!
