The other day, when I was boarding the plane to Indonesia, I overheard two English girls who looked about university age complaining very loudly about how business class got blankets and pillows and economy class didn’t. They were saying things like “I don’t get pillows and blankets because I’m poor? Where’s the socialism?” It irked me because if you’re in your early 20s and flying to Indonesia for summer break, you’re clearly very far from the poverty line. It irked me because, if you want to travel long term and you’re not a trust fund baby, you have to make some sacrifices, and I wouldn’t consider flying economy class a sacrifice. And mostly, I was annoyed that they had this amazing opportunity and privilege and they couldn’t see it.
