No one gets a free pass anymore. Condemning “both sides of the aisle” and perching yourself up on a moderate pedestal is no longer an option. Forget the concepts of “Republican” and “Democrat” and pay attention to people’s intentions. Notice the words they use, and the messages they’re spreading, because what is happening in our country (and in the world) right now goes far beyond politics.
One “side” is waking up, working to dismantle oppression, uproot a system of injustice, reverse and acknowledge the effects of climate change, and atone for the longstanding damage that has been done by the oppressors. The other “side” wants to maintain the unbalanced, toxic, male patriarchy at all costs. This side is rooted in oppression, fear, disparity, supremacy, greed, ego and racism. If you still think it’s okay to sit this one out and pretend to be a moderate, you have unconsciously chosen the side of the oppressor - and no, you don’t have to be a rich white man to be an oppressor.
Patriarchy is not inherently bad, but it is no longer serving the highest ideals of humanity. So we’re moving away from it and towards balance. Getting there won’t always be sunshine and butterflies and rainbows, but the progress happening now will sow new seeds of love, compassion and equality. We’re doing the hard work of laying out all the baggage: the good, the bad, and the damaged. We’re looking at everything, sifting through it, and having difficult conversations. Everything, every single thing is getting uncovered. There is no place to hide anything anymore. It’s all being exposed. Uprooted. Dismantled.
So you see, there is no “moderate.” There are no good guys or bad guys, only change and the degree to which you accept it. You either want to change and are willing to do the work, or you are actively resisting it. Regardless of what you choose, you will feel uncomfortable. It’s not easy to look at all the baggage of humanity in front of you, but it’s even more painful to pretend it isn’t there. As a collective, we’ve already made the conscious choice to break down these systems, and start again. 🌱
I’m exciting to see where the new year takes us. Happy 2019! ❤️
