Cappadocia is a historic region in Central Anatolia of Turkey. According to some linguistic research, it's first name dates back to the late 6th century BC when it appeared in the writings of the early Achaemenid kings, Darius I and Xerxes of the Persian Empire. The old Persian name was listed as - Haspaduya, which derives from Huw-aspa-dahyu - "the land of beautiful horses".

Friendship | Photograph by Jaana Eleftheriou
“I loved going to the local schools. The buildings were bare, only seats and a blackboard. There was no electricity in the classrooms, hardly any books, but there were lots of eager kids to learn, and meet and talk to you,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Jaana Eleftheriou. “Yet I think I was the one who was enriched the most, by sharing few precious hours with these kids who don’t ask for much.”

"For me, this is the perfect portrait of friendship. It doesn’t hurt that the young men are wearing lilac-colored shirts which is one of my favorite colors, but also the color of royalty. We don’t have to see their faces to understand… it’s really lovely and clear in its story-telling assets. Great angle!!!” — @natgeo photographer Maggie Steber (@maggiesteber)

Photo: @andy_mann // It’s moments like these that ignite the soul. After watching this #polarbear family sleep for hours on a rock outcropping in #Svalbard they finally awoke, yawned, stretched and collectively spied my hideout. I’d post up for days to get a moment like this. // Please join me @andy_mann in a quest to explore and capture the wildest and most fragile parts of the world.

#followmeto the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt with @natalyosmann. Still no one has been able to properly explain what the true purpose of this ancient structure was, or how was it built. Did you know that this pyramid has eight sides? The centres of the four sides are slightly indented. This phenomenon is only detectable at dawn and sunset on the spring and autumn equinoxes. It is also believed that the three Pyramids of the Giza Plateau mimic the constellation of Orion, or at least used to. ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
What other mysteries about the pyramids do you know?
