Love incorporating banded walks into my clients warm ups. Once I feel their technique & form is up to scratch I mix it up and get them to chuck two bands on #ouch

It’s super important I get these guys warming up and have the right muscles firing prior to their session so we can achieve the results we are looking for.
Rob’s session involved KB swings and one arm KB squats. I wanted the glutes & hammys firing so his quads & back don’t take over from the get go. This helps with injury prevention also ✔️

Bird Dogs are a staple in my training for myself and clients. But, after a while doing the same old bird dog day in and day out can become dull and boring. Finding different variations can help add some luster to your programs and keep you motivated. .

Here's the bird dog cable row and how to do it:

To start in a kneeling position, setting up on your knees and feet hip-width apart, with your feet dorsiflexed.
.
.

Slowly lean forward to place your hands on the mat, positioning them directly under your shoulders at shoulder-width with your fingers facing forward. Reposition your hands and knees as necessary so that your knees are directly under your hips and hands are directly under your shoulders.

.

Take a deep breath from your diaphragm and engage your core in positioning your spine in a neutral position, avoiding any excessive sagging or arching.
.
.

To start this exercise involves the simultaneous movement of your leg and contralateral arm. Then, slowly extend your left hip attempting to reach it until it is at, or near parallel, to the floor without any rotation in the hip. Your goal is to keep both hips parallel to the floor. .
.

Then slowly flex your right arm while holding a band or cable machine handle while rowing towards your chest without any tilting at the shoulders. Your goal is to keep both shoulders parallel to the floor. .
.

At last, gently lower yourself back to your starting position and repeat with the opposite limbs.

Let’s Talk Deadlifts & Kettlebell Swings! 🎤

Hip Hinge Movements are often the most improperly performed exercises I see quite often in the gym. 🍑

Many lifters and gym goers make the mistake of breaking with their knees first making it more of a squat pattern.

The hip hinge movement involves flexion/extension originating at the hips and involves a posterior weight shift. What we want to avoid is excessive flexion in the lumbar spine as this leads to low back pain.

As a Personal Trainer and Coach, I place so much emphasis with my clients on the Hip Hinge because most people don’t perform them properly and they are the precursor to just about any compound or explosive movement. Once my clients can perfect the hip hinge pattern I can queue them into just about anything...hence the KETTLEBELL SWING.

TOO OFTEN I SEE THEM PERFORMED INCORRECTLY SO BEFORE TRYING TO SWING...MAKE SURE YOU:
1. MASTER THE HIP HINGE!
2. PERFECT YOUR KETTLEBELL DEADLIFT!
3. PERFORM ROPE PULL THROUGHS

TIPS:
1. Chop hips and send Glutes backwards
2. Back & Neck are Neutral. No Rounded Lower Lumbar Spine
3. Heels, Toes & Balls of Feet are planted and knees are stacked above toes.
4. Arms are straight in bottom position.
5. Shoulders are packed (aka break the bell apart to lock your lats)
6. The force is coming from the posterior chain...NOT your arms.
7. There is no forward knee movement on the upswing.
8. The hips and knees extend fully, the spine is neutral.
9. Kettlebell is an extension of the straight arms at the top of the swing. (The kettlebell is firmly gripped and not droopy)
10. Biomechanical Breathing is performed. Exhale on the extension.
11. The abs and Glutes visibly contract at the top of the swing.
12. Kettlebell floats momentarily at the top of the swing.
13. The kettlebell is parked back the exact same way it was pulled.

I love when i get in the mood to change my workout. It has been awhile since I played with #kettlebells. So busted over the 20kg. Which is so easy to move. I cannot wait to be able to press this bad boy. But worked on mobility with #tgu and did some some #kbdeadlifts And some #armbars with the 25lb.
