3 oz Premium Kentucky Bourbon
1 oz Simple Syrup
Place 6-8 mint leaves at the bottom of a julep cup. Pour in your simple syrup and muddle the mint lightly, making sure not to over-bruise it. Pour in your crushed ice and then slowly pour in your bourbon over it. Stir until the cup is completely frosted on the outside. Pack in more ice on top, forming a dome. Give a sprig of mint a nice clap and place in the cup.
Synonymous with the Kentucky Derby, the mint julep is a cornerstone of both Southern and American tradition. I strongly suggest you use high quality bourbon. Splurge a little. You can’t go wrong with Woodford Reserve or Blanton’s. If you don’t have a silver or pewter julep cup, you can use a normal rocks glass or even a washed soup can!
Over 140,000 Mint Juleps will be made during the Kentucky Derby
The drinking straw was invented because the inventor didn’t want to warm up his julep by holding it
