Throwback Tuesday (I'm allowed to make up my own rules, right?) This adorable turtle box is an old favorite of mine! I apologize in advance for the speed of the video (working on getting a slower version into IGTV but I need to verticalize it ... ) Color and craft! Yes, it's ambitious but I love it because it's one of those crafts where you can really just unwind and enjoy the end result! For the printable head to the link in my profile.
Next month we will be leading a program for kids on Magic and Imagination, so we have been finalizing all of the projects and wanted to share this potential one with you, creating a fairy out of found and nature objects! (You could go with whatever topic your child is interested in.) How’s summer been treating you? Have you been enjoying your sprinkler, gone camping, dipped your toe in a lake or two? We’d love to hear about your summer adventures thus far!
SPACE • D’s been asking about the universe and solar system and so I’m using @elliefunbox space theme bilingual box to satisfy his curiosity and answer all his questions!
We have played with @elliefunbox learning boxes before and I know the activities are very much planned similar to my style - at least one hands-on activity from each of these learning areas (English and Chinese literacy, numeracy, general knowledge, STEAM, reads). I’m relieved I don’t need to start from scratch to prepare Space activities for the kids since all the ideas and resources are ready to be used!
Our first activity? Creating our own rocket launcher The kids had to do their colouring, I cut the rockets out and stuck the straws behind them. Using a smaller straw, the air-powered rockets will launch as we blow into the straws. It was fun until I realized C doesn’t have much lung power to blow into the straws. She was disappointed that her rocket couldn’t launch! Then I thought of using a ziplock bag, inflate it and got her to step on the bag. And Pooof! The rocket blasted off and made her really excited! Needless to say, this game was repeatedly several times until I became deflated 🤪 #steamkidschallenge#olpn_br#elliefunbox#olpn_stem#olpn_space

When I asked Claire @craftmakeplay if any of her kids would like to be kid ambassadors for Sew a Softie I got a pretty resounding YES! And it seems her daughter Maude decided she was going to teach her whole class how to sew...and why not! These are the Power Pillows made by Maude and her classmates. You can find Maude’s tutorial over on Claire’s Instagram feed. #sewyourselfsomepowerpillows
One of the many project @rexmartin has done on @artninjaofficial that we’ve added to our massive craft to do list is his sand art. Ricky did an awesome freehand drawing and then coloured it in with sand. It seemed right to give this a whirl with the kids this week as he is our new judge on @get.creative.with and is challenging us to #getcreativewith SAND.
To make it a bit easier for the Buttons, we printed out an outline of a mermaid and got painting with PVA and sand. Doesn’t it look cool?! Come and get crafty with sand this week.
To take part in, all you need to do is: Be following @rexmartin, @ohcreativeday and us. Tag your makes with @get.creative.with & #getcreativewith
Another peacock joined our collection today!
We squirted liquid watercolour (in blue, purple, green and yellow) onto watercolour paper and then used a straw to blow the colours around. While it was drying, I cut the body, beak, wings, legs and crown feathers out of cardstock, then my daughter and I glued them all in place together.
He and Pete (the paper plate peacock we made recently) seem to be getting along nicely.
Just look at that beautiful bi- manual color mixing play! My boys have been coming back to this activity for more all day!!!

A weekend filled with old friends and summer bbqs passed by too quickly for us to celebrate #nationalicecreamday here yesterday (although we had plenty ofthis weekend ). So one day late sharing this flashback from last summer - Giant Kawaii Ice Cream Popsicles . SWIPE to see my dancing popsicles. I have a confession: I'm very immature when it comes to my crafting. What I mean is, many of my crafts that I do for myself for fun aren't things I'd wear - the age on them is much younger. So I tend to pass things like this on to my nieces, but I love crafting them regardless!
These paracord headbands were so much fun to make - I took them with me to appointments to do while waiting - but they're also an amazing boredom buster for your tweens! Wear it as a headband or as a hairband - works both ways.
I have a longer version of this video in my IGTV or click the link in my profile to see the actual post, materials list.
The paracord that I used is by @leisurearts and perfect for something like this because of the fun colors (some non-crafting paracord can seem a bit... ugly? This is so pretty!
I'd love to hear your feeedback: what is your primary problem that you solve with crafting? do you craft for yourself, your kids, with your kids, etc? What role does crafting play in your life?
