Want to know why these oils are so amazing? If you aren’t familiar with the story of Jesus’ birth, then take a seat and let’s review!
- Jesus was born in Bethlehem because Joseph and Mary had gone there to take part in a census as this was Joseph's home town.
- According to tradition when Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem the local inn was already full with people returning for the census. The innkeeper let them stay in the rock cave below his house which was used as a stable for his animals. It was here, with the animals, that Mary gave birth to her son and laid him in a manger.
- Visitors came to see the baby Jesus, including wise men who followed a star that led them to Jesus and they presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These were signs of kingship and holiness.
“And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”
Matthew 2:11 ESV
Pretty incredible right?! Let’s dig a little more!
Frankincense: The Hebrew word for frankincense, levonah, is used in the Bible 22 times, making it one of the most recognized materials in scripture. (Song of Solomon 3:6)
Myrrh: One of the key ingredients in Moses’s holy anointing oil, myrrh was highly regarded by Biblical figures such as David and Solomon. (Proverbs 7:17)
So basically, to be able to have these two amazing oils in the palm of my hand, when they were revered in such high regard during the time of Jesus, and throughout much of the Bible... is beyond amazing to me 🙏🏻♥️
