This one’s for Mr Rangel. And all Indianheads! ❤️❤️❤️ You’re indeed “Second to None.” 🙏 I’m here at the 2ID Memorial at Imjingak, to pay respect to my former boss, Congressman Rangel, who’s like a father to me, served in the 2nd infantry division of the Eighth Army, during the #KoreanWar. I have written so much about as well as heard him tell stories of his unit that suffered more than 50% casualty in the infamous battle of Kunuri. He himself almost died. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star of valor for rescuing his men while wounded.
So when I met Dutch Korean War veterans Grandpas in the #Netherlands 🇳🇱 I couldn’t be more excited to discover that they were attached to the 2ID. I’ll never forget the jacket with the Indianhead patch on the sleeve hung in front of the door of one of the veteran’s homes I visited. He told me that he wore the jacket every day when he went outside. 🤗
2ID is still stationed in #SouthKorea, where 28,500 American soldiers remain to defend the Korean Peninsula, alongside 1100 South Korean soldiers (called #KATUSAs —Korean Augmentation to the U.S. Army). Since 1953, to this day, US servicemembers have so valiantly carried on the legacy of the Korean War #veterans grandpas.
Thank you to all Indianheads of the past and present, for defending our freedoms. ❤️
