😍 Made from pork, garlic, salt and pepper, Kranjska klobasa PGI is solely produced in the Slovenian geographical area comprised in the region which lies between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea 🇸🇮🐖⛰ Under the Holy Roman Empire, and subsequently the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the region of Kranjska was the only completely Slovenian region, which is why the term ‘Kranjec’ was used as another name for ‘Slovenian’ and is still used today in everyday language to designate part of the population of Slovenia.
The natural conditions for food production, as well as the climate, have been a key factor in the development of the characteristic culinary culture, with agriculture being geared mainly towards subsistence farming 🐖👩‍🌾 On very rugged terrain comprising mountains, valleys, basins and plains, the inhabitants have managed to preserve arable areas, set aside for growing feed for pigs. Pig-farming has gone hand in hand with the production
of pork and pork products. Accounts of the production of pork and pork products, including sausages, date back to the middle ages as shown by the portrayals on medieval frescos and in certain written documents in the archives. One of the typical products was a semi-durable sausage which, owing to the skill and know-how of the people of its region of origin and because of its specific taste, came to be known as ‘Kranjska klobasa’ in the early 19th century 🙌

Enjoying the typical Slovenian food in Ljubljana’s restaurants.
KRANJSKA KLOBASA (Carniolan sausage): is the best known Slovenian speciality. The earliest known mention of a sausage referred to as "kranjska klobasa" dates back to 1896. This heavily smoked sausage is traditionally eaten with sauerkraut and fermented turnip. Emperor Franz Josef once famously proclaimed that it is ‘no ordinary sausage’, and we really agree))). SOČA RIVER TROUT
Slovenia’s coast is full of excellent fresh fish, but it is possibly the gorgeous Soča valley that provides the tastiest. The Soča River Trout is wonderful prepared in a variety of ways. Our was great with amazing wild mushroom sauce.
ŠTRUKLJI (next to the trout onthe picture) is a traditional Slovenian boiled or baked dough roll with a variety of different sweet or savoury filling options, served either as a main or side dish. The best known are tarragon, cottage cheese, walnut, apple and poppy seed štruklji. We had baked cottage cheese štrukji and fell in love with them.

GOLAŽ (goulash)- a beef stew in a bread bowl contributed by Hungary is very popular too.
Mattia is drinking UNION, one of the two most popular pilsners by the commercial brewer Laško. And I’m trying housemade wine CVIČEK. It is a unique Slovenian wine, composed of different grape varieties including both white and red grape species. It has a relatively low alcoholic content of 8.5% to 10%. After the dinner we went to another place specially for their dessert typical in Slovenia. We paired it with beautiful semi-sweet Slovenian Riesling. Yum!

PREKMURSKA GIBANICA (Prekmurje layered cake), a moist dessert consisting of layers of poppy seed, cottage cheese, walnut and apple filling. It is protected under the Traditional Speciality Guaranteed designation and can only be sold under its name when prepared according to the traditional recipe. 年越しそばならぬ、年越しソーセージ&シュトゥルクリ@リュブリャナ。

ソーセージは西洋ワサビをつけて食べるとアクセントになっておいしかったです。ビールを買えば良かったと激しく後悔(^^; シュトゥルクリ(右上)は、スロベニアの伝統的な家庭料理。お菓子のように見えたけど甘さ控えめで、食べやすかったです♪

”Братвурст” (Bratwurst), микс најбоље свињетине, говедине и сланине. Позната и као ”бела” кобасица. Није димљена, па задржава пун укус меса и зачина. Настала у Баварској. Најзаступљенија врста кобасице на немачком ”Октобарфесту”.
