Today is #childrenscancer day...🌻 a day for all the brave lionhearts like my little sister Valentina.♥She was diagnosed with a highly aggressive bone #tumor at the age of 12 and died one year later on my 25 birthday. A few weeks before her death, she asked my mum to have a little #cactus 🌵 because she found that the little cactus had the same hair-style as her, with her hair growing back after #chemotherapy .
She laughed in the face of adversity and saw #silverlinings 🌤under the most dire circumstances. Before Valentina fell ill and died, I had been interested in pseudo-spiritual ideas for a better life, like the law of attraction and positive thinking...⚡but Valentina's situation made it very obvious that there are things in life that are completely out of control. No 12-year-old girl has ever had the opportunity to build up this much bad #karma as to undergo so much pain, suffering and in the end, death. I have never seen anyone fight harder for anything than Valentina was fighting for her life. If things like the #lawofattraction were true, she would have survived. But she didn't, and this family #tragedy shattered all the fragile, shallow ideas I had about spirituality, #positivity and #stability.
But the end of one thing is often the #beginning of something new.🌱 Even though Valentina's fate and her way of dealing with it destroyed the superficial like-to-be-spirituality I might have had before, she gave me insights into something much deeper, providing the grounds of a more profound way of looking at the #meaningoflife and #happiness . Valentina was rooted in the most serious #spirituality that I have ever seen, as if it was the most natural thing to her.🌍 And in contrast to all the self-help books out there, Valentina did not just talk sweet words - she implemented what she believed, day in and day out. This made her genuinely #radiant , #beautiful and full of #love and #appreciation despite some of the worst circumstances you can experience as a 12-year-old.♥
THANK YOU VALENTINA and my most heart-felt #kudos to you! You are the best little #sister I could ever have had.🙆🌻
