TAIL as old as time ... Lady and the Jake
Who'd have guessed they'd come together on their own?Now wait and see, a few days more; there may be something there that wasn't there before.
Jake has shown small hints of interest in Lady these last few days and I hope it picks up from here. Fingers crossed!
I will continue to share photos and educate about my experience as a first time breeder. Hopefully it will encourage many to try and breed dogs in hopes to optimize their genes and have fun at the same time.
Always remember that a dog is a full time/life time commitment!
I can't remember if I had mentioned this or not but if so, I'm doing it again.
You might have noticed Jake's "bad tooth-to-gum ratio" at the front of his mouth. This is the only area where his teeth have degraded. He has a gum disease that is of very low hereditary, but also has little chance of prevention (it's mostly found in boxers and other drooly breeds). I do provide him with dog toothpaste in hopes to have no further degrading but there's only so much that can be done for him. He still manages to eat his food with ease but whenever possible, I try to give him dental dog treats or soft food.
Lady's teeth on the other hand are very nice. Hopefully I can out-breed the gum disease, as these dogs have no relation within at least 5 generations.
This morning I got 'attacked' by 2 fluffer duffers and had trouble breathing while having them both lie on me (while I gave them belly rubs). Well, if that's the way I'm gonna go out, that's the best way possible
Here is just a picture to show some more of their personalities; I called these two the derpy-duo.
Jake is a completely goofy, yet lovable dog. He is completely friendly and never fights unless it is to defend himself or me. I've had him since he was 12 weeks old and have loved him ever since. Although he may not look the smartest, he is extremely intelligent and can be taught a trick fairly quickly. .
Although I've only had Lady for a few months (and not in her <1 year pup phase), I have gotten to know and love her quite a bit. She used to be afraid of a lot of things, as a result of what we believe is the outcome of being an outdoor/barn dog. She now comes to your lap for pets and love her belly rubs (almost as much as Jake does). She still has a fair amount of training to go through (especially stopping the random barking), but hopefully with Jake's and my help, she can be taught in no time.
*note: Jake is completely trained by myself & Lady will be completely trained by me too (as she knew no commands when she arrived).
With Jake showing only so much interest in Lady, I might have to consider artificial insemination. Another option is buying another male dog to breed to her, which I was already planning in the future.
However, keeping in mind I plan to have them breed naturally (with success), I also plan to set up an online video that can be viewed as the pups grow.
Der Mann hat Spätschicht und ich mal Ruhe für ein wenig Gedönsjuhu

Here are a few pictures of Jake and Lady from today. Like many dogs, they enjoy their walks. As a future breeder, it is best to suggest that one who gets a large dog friend should also have some land for the dog to run about. However, logically speaking, as long as you have time to take the dog for walks and make sure the dog itself is happy, there is no harm in a smaller area (but I do NOT suggest an appartment). Bringing your dog to an off-leaah dog park is a great way to help release some endorphins and make your dog happy, but be warned. Make sure your dog has all the main shots it requires and watch how your dog socializes with other dogs. If your dog is not neutered/spayed, I suggest not bringing them or to keep a very keen eye on them.
