The Healthier Pumpkin Spice Latte
November is here! And with it comes America's favorite coffee drink, the pumpkin spice latte.
But did you know that a typical pumpkin spice latte contains a whopping 49 grams of sugar? That’s more sugar than two scoops of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. Add the heavy whipped cream, caramel, and dairy and this favorite coffee can carry close to 500 nutrition-less calories.
Instead, try making this delicious, lower sugar alternative!
* 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
* 1 cinnamon stick * 2 whole cloves * 3-4 slices fresh ginger * 2 allspice berries * ½ cup strong brewed coffee or espresso * Stevia to sweeten * ¼ tsp nutmeg, to garnish
Instructions: In a small pan, bring the coconut milk, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and allspice to a simmer. Cover, and simmer on low for 5-10 minutes. Brew coffee or espresso and pour into cup of your choice. Carefully pour milk mixture through a strainer into the coffee. Sweeten to your taste, and serve topped with nutmeg.
