Day 50! HALF WAY! I can’t believe it… I honestly didn’t think I’d get past the first week, let alone to half way through. Worth making the effort to get the photos up before sleep to hit that milestone!
Today’s image is of the magnificent Welsh poppy. People actually grumble about these beautiful things because they SPREAD. I tend to think the more of them the better. They line the road on the other side of the valley in a glorious display but we don’t get as many over here… There’s a little clump of three by the kerbside outside our house. Not quite ready to bloom, but they’ll get there and I’m anticipating it keenly.
In other news... Our chapel has dedication plaques attached to its walls, all dated ‘Meh 22 1898’. The Mr noticed the date while fixing a railing and came back in telling me it was the chapel’s 120th birthday. He posted it to Facebook… and we learned Meh isn’t Welsh for May. It’s Welsh for June. It’s a very embarrassing reminder that we really need to learn a little of this country’s language, seeing as we’re lucky enough to call it home. I promised myself I wouldn’t move to Wales and not learn Welsh… yet here I am 4 years on, with only a few words and simple phrases under my belt. I’m mortified not to know the very basics, like numbers, the days of the week, months, colours... I don’t need it to get by day to day, but that’s not the point. I love it here. I’m a Londoner with Irish and Scottish blood, so maybe it’s the Celtic connection that makes me feel rooted here in a way I never did in England... It feels like I’m missing out on the heart of the place without connecting with the language. Anyway... I’m wittering. Long story short - I need another attempt to find Welsh lessons that fit my schedule.
