Some of the best counseling advice I was ever given decades ago, (yes, I’ve been working on bettering myself and seeing therapists for well over 20 years!), that has helped me through MANY of my life’s struggles, was this....
“ It will often be two steps forward and one step back, but it’s still progress”. I have for years been my own worst enemy and have been extremely hard on myself. I put myself under a microscope all too often and analyze a situation to its death. I have been known to beat myself up over my mistakes and have many sleepless nights worrying about how others may have misunderstood what I meant. When I have had failures, and there have been many, I have felt defeated and like I’m not good enough. These are the moments when this simple message has been my saving grace. This mistake or slip, may be my one step back, but I’m still moving forward. I can stand up, wipe myself off, and carry on moving in the right direction.
Nothing in this life is perfect. Nothing. Demanding perfection upon yourself is crazy making. It is setting yourself up for a lifetime of disappointment. What if we all just cut ourselves some slack? Set our goals, worked our butts off, lived with an intention of love and kindness, but also accepted ourselves when we made mistakes? What if we took our mistakes as lessons? Lessons of what not to do next time, and continued to grow and become more whole one day at a time.
Just some food for thought on this lovely Sunday morning. I hope you can remember this gem of advice that was given to me, and that you use it as often as I do to find more self love and true self acceptance ♥️ #loveyourself #beyou #acceptyourfailures #learnfromyourmistakes #cutyourselfsomeslack #findpeace #twostepsforwardonestepback #progressnotperfection #nobodyisperfect #lifecoaching #oraauthenticlife #oraauthenticcoaching #learntoloveyourself #newgoals
