These are a couple coconuts a kid cut down from a tree on Mamanuca Island. Probably the best coconut I’ve ever had 🌴

Let’s get real personal here. The relationship I was in ended 6 months ago. The relationship played out exactly how my other ones did: started on a faulty desire to be cared about and ended in a dragged out process of unnecessary hurt. I decided this time would be different; this time I would sit with the loneliness and stay single for at least 6 months (seems short but it’s the longest I’ve done for awhile). .
.
Everyone carries trauma. For many, it affects our relationships, including the romantic kind. I’ve probably hurt people along the way— and been hurt due to my lack of self-worth and being able to set boundaries. Hence why this time has been vital for me to work through issues and realize what my true values are. .
.
I couldn’t have done it without my friends. I couldn’t have done it without my best friend, me. It’s been hard at times— but unless we put in the work, the same patterns will keep emerging. .
.
So here’s to 6 months of.. relationship sobriety!? 🎉 I’ll celebrate by skipping yet another day or shaving my legs and eating the whole damn chocolate bar. 🍫

2 years ago I tasted an oatmeal coconut lime cookie at the organic farmers market that was amazing. The only problem was part of what made it amazing was all the oil and sugar in the cookie. There was so much oil that bag I took them home in was greasy.

So I’ve been on a quest to make a good cookie without a lot of oil or sugar. I made these last night and they satisfied my craving.

Reason number 7,946 why I am thankful for homeschooling.

No one likes being sick. Well, no one except the Lioness. Ask her and she'll tell you. She eats delicious, nutritious food, watches TV snuggled in a blanket, and the "medicine" she takes is actually quite tasty.
.
She asked for cabbage with lime and salt last night, and I knew something was coming. She is becoming very adept at listening to her body, and any time she feels a fever coming on... she craves cabbage with lime and salt. So wise this little one!
.
This is go-go-go-keep-it-movin world, but childhood illnesses are unavoidable, no matter how clean you eat, exercise, etc. So when the rare bug infiltrates my daughter's defenses, I think it's awesome that she already knows to listen to her body and rest. Along with the reading, writing, and 'rithmetic that we study, these life lessons are invaluable.
.
So for now, she is enjoying pepinos, orange juice with minced garlic and a few drops of elderberry, and a manuka honey lozenge. And after a visit to the store, her treatment will also include caldo de pollo with lots of lime and fresh oregano... and cabbage with lime and salt.

I guess I can see why maybe she claims to *like* being sick... 😉

Our tallies are in and we are excited to say we grew 1500 pounds of produce this year! 1250 pounds went directly to patient meals here at SB Medicine. The remaining 250 pounds was donated to participants of local charitable organizations such as Hope House Ministries, Stony Brook Home Medical Clinic and Stony Brook WIC. Cachi Fruit; Wednesday's is my local Italian market. Because it's local food it's cheap, fresh, tasty & sometimes a new experience for me. This week 'cachi' from the Persimmon fruit, a relative of the Sharon fruit originally from Asia. Mother nature yields a fruit to ward off colds & give energy in the colder months. It's high in calories the healthy carbohydrates & natural sugar. An excellent source of fibre, Vitamin C (80% of the daily requirement), Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, potassium & the mineral manganese. I'll be sharing ideas but already I know they're great in a morning breakfast milk/soy smoothie, good for jam too but I'm going to try cakes & roasting them too.

Making roasted carrots is one of my favourite ways to enjoy this fall & winter veggie. 🥕⠀

They are super simple to make - just trim the leaves, wash the carrots and arrange on a lined baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil (and even some honey if you want that sweetness!) and sprinkle with herbs like rosemary and thyme. ⠀

This is perfect for me since I grow these in our garden - and am always looking for more ways to use fresh herbs in our cooking. 🌿⠀

Then just roast on 200C (400F) for about 30 minutes until you can pierce them easily with a fork. ⠀

It's an easy side dish for a week night dinner or a fancier occasion!⠀

Although overripe bananas may not really look very appetising--the fruit turns soggy while the banana peel may turn black or brown--they are very good for our health.

Here are a few benefits that you can draw from consuming an overripe banana:

1. It prevents or delays cell damage

An overripe banana is rich in antioxidants, which is beneficial in preventing or delaying cell damage in one's body. This, in turn, lowers the risk of diseases. It also improves our immune system.

2. It is easier to digest

As a banana ripens, the starchy carbohydrates in them convert into free sugars, thus making these bananas easy to digest. Green bananas, on the other hand, contain starches that are hard to digest.

3. It can help you combat cancer

When a banana becomes too ripe, its peel turns a few shades darker. The dark spots on the peel create Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), a substance that can kill cancerous and abnormal cells.

Working on color charts, but needed to fuel up. Lunch was leftover slow-cooked beef roast with carrots and a bit of potato. The sauce has broth, red wine, balsamic vinegar, minced onion, chopped dates, fresh thyme, molasses, salt, and pepper. Served with a splash of worchestershire and fresh parsley.

I fasted through the morning, so I wanted a good dose of protein to break it. .
Sipping now on a warm cup of chicken broth w/ s&p, oregano, minced onion, garlic, and cayenne. (I have a cold to kick, and this soup is feeling so good!)
