Every year since I was about 9 I’ve made my own Christmas cards. Every year for the last 25 years those cards - whether those ‘cards’ are actually a chocolate bar, a time lapse, a Christmas mural, screen saver, animation, storybook, vinyl record or any other inkstravaganza we’ve made that year - has gone out to a precious and ever-expanding group of clients, who I now think of as colleagues and friends.
Every year I say this year I’m gonna give it a miss. No-one will notice’, I say to myself, and I can avoid the annual stress it adds to the seasonal pile.
And yet, every year, I do it.
Hundreds and hundreds of hand-made or hand-finished objects are fired off from the studio around the globe in an excited, exhausting blur.
Why do I do it to myself? (*Ou*rselves actually, since every one requires a little helper or 6).
Well, because I believe at he root of all jobs, all business, is relationships. And humans live getting things in the post! Tactile, hand-made, personalised, little things.
Rod for my own back or important long-held tradition, I do it because I love my job, and I love working with the people involved in it.
Here’s to another cramped writing hand, cold cup of tea and forgotten lunch! 🙋🏻♀️😁🙃 Inkymole General 🖍✍🏼🎨✒️🖤🖋🎨✍🏼✏️
