Competed today. I went against a two time world champ at my weight class, got caught with thirty seconds left. Thx @robertojimenezbjj for a great match. Lost a friendly to a teammate after that. Fear of embarrassment, fear of failure, these were non factors once I realized that win, lose, or draw, I would absolutely get better from this. I uncovered some very specific technical areas that require more study. @lucasleitebjj gave me a lot of courage to compete, if for no other reason convincing me that as someone that likes to diversify their training, this is a good way to get to roll with the best up-and-comers in the sport. Once I heard I was going up vs. a world champ, nerves vanished and it was replaced with excitement. No other sport can you sign up online and get a chance to go toe-to-toe with the dudes you read about in magazines. This is maybe my 7th or 8th competition ever, had some nice moments and learning experiences. Thank you again Lucas for coaching me and the encouragement, mentioning the pride you have just for having guys come represent. This is just another stepping stone. We'll eventually break through.
