Best family tradition ever! I’m not going to say how many years it’s been going. But I will say it started when I was 6 months. 🎄
My Mom went out Christmas shopping one night and my Dad decided to make her some cookies. He put me in my high chair and traced my hand on the rolled out cookie dough. And made the first “hand cookie”.
Since then, every year, we make a ginormous batch of Christmas cookies. And Papa would trace our hands. As we got older and started having kids of our own, the tradition, bakers and cookies have increased!
Well, Papa left us 2 years ago. Quite suddenly. But the tradition is alive and well! And so much fun! My Mom joins us now. one grandkid is away at college. I host, which I LOVE. And we, the kids, trace the grandkid’s hands. This year we had a failure in communication and had NO cookie dough, and NO Christmas cookie cutters. But we made it work! The Tulip turned upside down became a Holiday Bell. The round cookie cutter became an Ornament. The upside down Shamrock turned into an Angel. And we had lots of creative shapes and blobs! And a memory that will last a lifetime!
