Approximately one year apart. The picture on the left was me unwell, suffering from brain fog, adrenal fatigue, aches, pains, epstein barr virus, poor digestion, sluggishness etc and struggling to get through each and every day. I was on 100 mcg of NDT and 25mg T3. Most people will look at it and see a fairly healthy person, I look well, therefore, I must be well... Not so.

The picture on the right was taken in the last few weeks, aches and pains gone, digestion greatly improved, epstein barr virus dormant, no sluggishness or daily slumps anymore. My thyroid is fully functioning after 10 years and the best part? I am completely medication free and thriving!
Sure I am still healing in other areas but that's a time thing and as long as I continue feeding my body the good stuff and stay clear of the poisons/toxins, I CAN ONLY HEAL, it's not possible not too and I have proved that. Our bodies are designed to heal and repair themselves and once you truly begin to believe this, you will open up that possibility for yourself too.

Food is your medicine it always has been, turn down the noise of all the bias and industry-funded studies, marketing and media campaigns out there and clean up your diet. Don't allow fear to stop you healing, stop following the masses and start following your intuition.

This was both my view and my inspiration at 8 am on a Sunday morning. There was laundry. There was groceries. There was a second cup of coffee. There were books to read (oh soooo many). There were email (equally oh soooo many). There was mountains of work. There were many reasons (and many justifiable excuses) to not get on the mat. And yet my guiding principle that life happens in moments kicked in and took over where motivation was failing me. I leaned into the moment and found not only the mat, but a new perspective. If yoga is the conduit to new paradigms then the moment is the vehicle. And don’t you know it, the laundry was waiting along with a new perspective. The chores of life were much easier to stomach after a cup of chai and a few downward dogs. Better a downward dog than a downward spiral, that’s what I always say. Fatty liver and cirrhosis have traditionally had two primary causes such as drinking too much alcohol, or contracting hepatitis B or C (IV drug use, unhygienic tattooing, tainted blood transfusions, etc.).

The Mayo Clinic says 80-100 Million Americans have NAFLD and many of them don't know it.
-
It’s now estimated that one in ten children suffer from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). If you’re an obese Mexican-American boy, the odds are 50-50(!) thanks to a genetic predisposition (PNPLA3 gene).
-
15 years ago, this disease was unheard of and yet within 10 years, it’s projected to be the #1 cause of liver transplants.

Making matters worse and despite the serious risks associated with fatty liver disease, there are currently no official recommendations for routine screening.
-
Like all other blood test ranges, the traditional lab reference ranges are grossly inappropriate.
In 1976, the upper limit of normal for ALT was 25. Today's upper limit is 42!?!
-
If you get your liver enzymes tested (AST and ALT), the optimal ranges should be below 20. So anything above 20 indicates liver dysfunction.
-
ALT is a biomarker for the degree of liver fat you have.
-
AST is much more minute to minute (or how your body is reacting to your last meal).
-
Uric acid is another marker that you should be measuring. The more sugar you consume, the higher your uric acid goes.
-
This brings up sugar. Eliminating sugar and fasting is the quick and dirty way to address a fat ass liver.
-
But it's not just any sugar, Fructose specifically is what you should avoid. Fructose ages the body 7 times faster than glucose.
-
Here's a list of blood tests needed to properly assess liver and gallbladder function: AST, ALT, LDH, GGT, Alk Phos, Bilirubin, Albumin, Uric acid and the A/G ratio.

✨ What people are today is a cumulative effect of everything that has happened to them: all they have experienced throughout their lives. The way you respond to things ultimately shapes who you are. This can be emotional or physical. Seen or unseen.

✨ I do not fix anyone. I do not heal anyone. People fix and heal themselves. I do not have all the answers but I do my best with the information that I have to direct my patients down a path that will lead to a well and healthy life.

✨ There are a lot of people that come into my office or and want me to “fix” them. Well that’s not possible because I don’t fix anyone. What I do is merely a catalyst for them to realize the potential and power that they have with themselves to do exactly that. I have a menu of options from which they get to choose from. Because that is what life is: a series of choices. Most of the time, making the healthy or “right” choice, is not always fun or easy.

✨ There are also a lot of people that want an easy way out. They want a medication, a pill, something simple that’s going to make up for an accumulation of not so great choices. You can’t expect your body to treat you well if you don’t treat it well. Pills and medications are just turning down the volume on symptoms, while the problem keeps brewing on the inside.

✨ I really wish there was some kind of magic, a really simple solution to fix everything that is wrong with everyone. Something to fix things that that aren’t what people think they should be. I would never withhold some kind of magic like that from someone, but I want my patients and every one to know that power, that magic already exists inside of them.

✨ That magic happens with the small decision you make, all day long. The so called unimportant decisions? That is where the magic is, and therein lies answers to living well.

Recently, someone asked me what my skincare routine is. What you don’t know about me is that I used to break out all the time as a teenager. I used face masks, spot treatments, and different soaps. Sometimes they helped, but inevitably my skin would rebel. I felt desperate at times because I didn’t know the answer, and I was embarrassed.

What’s my skincare routine NOW? My diet!! I don’t remember the last time I broke out. I don’t eat dairy. I avoid added sugars. I eat a ton of greens, vegetables, and fruits. I also exercise and drink water. It wasn’t til I made the change to my diet that my skin recovered. Nowadays, I don’t even have to think about it, whereas it used to occupy my thoughts regularly. People ask me how I can eat such a “restrictive” diet, and my answer is:

1. Plant-based nutrition is colorful and exciting, and
2. My diet LIBERATES me NOT to have to think about my skin, fatigue, bloating, headaches, allergies... that is freeing, not restrictive.

Most days, I use only water on my face. Sometimes I exfoliate. I use a gentle moisturizer when I need it. That’s it. There’s no 10-step routine, no masks, no fear. You would be surprised how much plants could do for you if you gave them a try. 🌱❤️ #WholeFoodPlantBased

What does all this mean? There seemed to be a relationship between obesity and thinning of brain tissue, which correlates with dementia. Obesity was measured by waist circumference and BMI (body mass index).

While the relationship appeared in this study, cause and effect will need to further be determined. 🌱
So why are there so many studies looking at weight and diet and correlation with other diseases? Because the more we study nutrition and weight, the more we see how much our lifestyle is affecting us! The Standard American Diet is truly killing us, it’s time for a change. 🌱
What changes can you make? Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans should be the majority of your diet. Skip soda, stop eating fast food, make food fresh, or try to meal prep to cut down cooking time! Small changes add up.
