COMPOUND VS. ISOLATION EXERCISES by @online.fitness.coach

When it comes to efficiency, burning fat and building muscle, compound movements are superior to isolation exercises for a handful of reasons.
.
To start, they incorporate multiple body parts and recruit large muscle groups, which requires a higher energy demand than isolation exercises that focus on smaller muscle groups. In other words, you burn more calories during your workout.
.
In addition, because you are utilizing multiple large muscle groups at once, you can lift heavier weight, which increases lean muscle tissue. The more lean muscle you have, the more calories you burn throughout the day. This is because muscle uses a lot more energy than fat while at rest. When you increase your muscle mass, you boost your resting metabolism, and that makes your body burn more calories.

And finally, they heavily utilize, engage, and strengthen the core in functional ways that crunches and sit-ups do not.
.
There’s nothing wrong with isolation exercises. They can help to bring out definition, but you generally want to save these for the end of your workout, after you’ve completed some of the more taxing exercises that target the larger muscle groups first.
.
The reason being, most compound movements require more technical skill than isolation exercises. Performing a deadlift correctly takes practice. In addition, they require that you lift heavier weight. Unless you are an advanced lifter, and you understand how and when to use “pre-exhaust” workouts, doing single-joint isolation exercises BEFORE compound movements is a great way to get injured.

If your goal is to burn body fat and build lean muscle, especially if you don’t have more than 2-4 hours per week to workout, the bulk of your workload should be focused around compound movements.

60kg x 5 Military Press 🏋🏻‍♂️ - the military press has never been my favourite movement after previous rotator cuff injuries any overhead exercise has been uncomfortable; but after rehabilitation and persistence my strength is starting to build up and I’m now enjoying performing overhead movements. 💛 💪👌

Actually most of the time it's workout clothes, sweaty hair and toddlers sprinting circles around us.
When I signed up as a coach at 260 lbs I never thought I was going to be here on a floor with my fittest friend doing a 30 minute HIIT workout.
I never thought I would have helped people with their own lifestyle.
Like my girl that's lost 18 lbs in 4 weeks or my friend that has worked out more in 30 days than she has in 5 years, or my friends whose toddlers workout with her and are learning how to love fitness and she wants to financially help her family grow so she is joining the team.

Today I am thankful for my team and how we are growing together with the same purpose.
I've gained friends like this girl that brought out a side of me that strives to be my best self physically, mentally and financially.
And for that I am forever thankful that my 260 lb self took a leap of faith, got over the fear of what others would think and just go it.

When I lift I try not to grip the weights too tight — Focus your energy on the muscles at work, always keep your form in check, smile and enjoy the burn 😅

One of my favorites is an elevated lunge with a military press. Dynamic lifting allows you to work multiple muscles groups, burn more calories and push yourself to a whole new level.

I have always had a naturally anxious mind so I have to remind myself of this often. Fear is natural and a good mechanism for survival, but once it takes root in the mind it is damn hard to get rid of. So I do little check-ins with myself to make sure I'm actually the boss calling the shots and not fear. .

I am 40lbs down from when I started my fitness journey and I can’t begin to express how happy I am about it. Need a strong core ? Do you have a problem activating your chest muscles?

This is by no means completely exact but it does give you a rough idea. You may be a little dissapointed since the rumor was that a session would burn anywhere between 100-300 calories. It looks like us dudes burn through a little more. This study was published by Frappier et al (2013). ⠀

I've often encountered people saying "why should I lift weights in the gym?". Wolff's law would be that reason. Putting external load on the body is extremely beneficial, and for this reason I've always believed incorporating a lifting regimen is important. #liftweights
