Red hazel foliage and white umbels of Skirret. Shade and light. Yin and yang: the sun moves over a mountain and casts an massive shadow. Yet each boulder also has its own smaller pattern. All day the sun travels and shadows, big and small, extend and retreat into and away from the light. Even at night, the moon makes shadows. At no point is the relation between the two static, equal, settled. I find the analogy to how gardens and gardening play out actively useful. In my fairly relaxed way of analysing things, if something’s not working on any level then balance can be gently restored .
