This patient had filler in her lips before (not done by me), and they were a bit uneven with a bump on the left lower lip that we had to dissolve. The goal with this patient was not to make her lips bigger but to make them more symmetrical. To do this I only used less than half a syringe of Juvederm Ultra. When doing lip injections precise technique is very important to achieve the patient’s lip goals. Mission accomplished. 👄☑️
When patients come to see me because they are unhappy with their existing lip filler (often performed by other injectors), there are a few things I suggest:
1. If a patient is extremely unhappy we can dissolve the filler. Especially if there are lumps, bumps, or irregularities. We do this with Hyaluronidase. It begins to work within 5 minutes, and with gentle massage all of the injected filler can be completely dissolved within 1-3 days.
2. We can also add more filler if there is asymmetry or an area not full enough.
3. You can wait it out. Hyaluronic acid based fillers like Juvederm and Restylane are not permanent, and they are absorbed by the body slowly over time. The exact duration depends on your body's metabolic rate, as well as how much you move your lips. Typically lip filler will last between 9 and 12 months. #TransformationTuesday
