10 reasons why modern society suspects that I am an alien
Whenever I met new people in daily life, I struggle answering the first and very simple questions like: 'Where are you from?', 'When are you coming back to Russia?', 'What do you do?', 'How do you earn money?', 'Don't you miss your family and friends?'.
I struggle because from one hand I don't want to scare people away with my answers, and from the other - I don't want to lie. Scenario is usually pretty similar. Talk lasts for around 5-10 minutes. Then I am marked as 'an indentified object' and left alone. Exceptions are rare and usually happen to me at the Israeli border :)
So what makes me an alien to the modern world?
I don't drink alcohol, smoke or take any other intoxicants. At all. For the past 5+ years. That immediately discredits me in many people's eyes. Russian who doesn't drink. Shouldn't be trusted.
I don't read news.
I don't have a home. Throughout a year I would usually change 15-20 countries.
I try to own less and less. If to gather all my pesonal belongings including trekking and winter clothes, equipment and books, it wouldn't be more than 25 kg. I usually travel with 8-10 kg backpack.
I don't really have friends. But at the same time I have hundreds. I just stopped linking friendship to a geographical factor. I believe nowadays that friendship depends on many factors. Lifestyle, current believes, goals, means. Once those change, it is natural that friends will also change accordingly.
I volunteer 90% of my free time. I truly believe that if you want to see some changes in this world, you have to be those changes yoursefl first. And I want to see a lot of changes :)
