A MOMENT WITH JOHN HEDDITCH
In our next instalment of ‘getting to know our club members a little better’ we have a former Club President, Club Treasurer, Local Council Mayor, Committee Member and Life Member, John Hedditch.
How were you introduced to the club:
In the early 70’s as a young colt from Wagga Wagga I was chasing a young lady with beautiful eyes and a dimpled smile from Sunshine called Pauline that I had met on holidays in Qld. Her brothers Mick (father of Xavier) Harry and Steve Hayes were involved at the club.
Brief insight into your sporting background:
Played Rugby League, some cricket and few seasons of Aussie Rules. Also swam a lot and was a junior lifesaver on the Murrumbidgee River for a couple of years (worked on the tan).
What is your most memorable Sunshine Football Club moment:
There are two:
1. seeing Ben, Sam and Joe play a game together.
2. The 2017 Grand Final that we won everywhere but the scoreboard.
What sports did you play as a Junior:
Cricket for Lake Albert CC,Rugby League for Wagga Kangaroos (my passion), Aussie Rules for Marian Dons U 12’s (best clubman) and Wagga Tigers U16’s.
What AFL team do you follow:
South Melbourne / Sydney Swans
Who are your sporting heroes:
Peter Norman a standout, then Mark Taylor, Tommy Raudonokis, Paul Kelly (all Wagga boys). Wayne Carey was from Nth Wagga 😉
What other activities do you enjoy outside of football:
Community work, socialising and more recently travelling.
