I certainly don't understand what this equation is saying or how it was developed. I have to take it on the authority of those who claim to understand it that it represents what it says to represent. This type of "faith" is often falsely compared with religious faith and those arguing against atheism often times will use this as a 'checkmate atheists' point. But being an atheist does not mean by any stretch of the imagination that the atheist is an absolute skeptic in the sense that nothing can be accepted unless it can be physically observed. There is plenty that we all accept on authority whether we are atheists or not. Believers will often argue that atheists have their own faith in science and mathematics that is comparable to religious faith and therefore there is no intellectual grounds for rejecting religion and dogma. The reason this is fallacious is simply because of the misuse of the word faith. I have faith in the mathematics behind equations like this and the theories that come along with them or with scientific endeavors such as biology (evolution would be the obvious example) based on the idea that there is a reasonable trust in the methods used to (cont'd in comments)
@Regranned from @seekr_of_stars - The theory can be encapsulated in a main #equation called the standard #model Lagrangian (named after the 18th-century French #mathematician and astronomer Joseph Louis #Lagrange), which was chosen by theoretical physicist Lance Dixon of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in California as his favorite #formula. "It has successfully described all elementary #particles and #forces that we've observed in the laboratory to date — except #gravity," Dixon told LiveScience. "That includes, of course, the recently discovered #Higgs(like) boson, phi in the formula. It is fully self-consistent with #quantum #mechanics and special #relativity." The standard model theory has not yet, however, been united with general relativity, which is why it cannot describe gravity.
