FIRE! FIRE!! FIRE!!! Its no longer news that "Nothing happens without a cause", Yes we all know that. Even in electrical engineering, Electrical Fire happens when certain measures aren't met.
There are a handful of reasons for electrical fire but I want to emphasise on the most common and yet non-obvious one. (Probably subsequently I'll share more about others)
This Occurs when an electrical connection (Cable joints, terminals etc) isn't mechanically tight enough to ensure that the resistance across that connection is as low as possible. When a connection becomes either loose or corroded, it develops resistance. This resistance dissipates power in the form of heat when current flows through it (more than enough heat to burn up the connection and surrounding wires). Loose connections is also a major cause for Low voltage, Irregular power supply/power fluctuations(showing blinky effect and damages electronics appliances immediately or gradually)
Loose connection don't just happen, it's caused mostly by either carelessness, incompetence or lack of right tools on the part of the technician.
To eliminate Electrical Fire caused by loose connections, a technician has to know the various cable jointing/termination methods, the right cable jointing method for a particular application and most importantly the right tools to enable one execute effectively each required method.
This is why it's important you have your electrical jobs done by professionals who understand electricity and how it works.
In the picture below, I ended a constant burning problem for a client by using simply the right tool (Hydraulic Pliers) and Special Splicing kit for Armoured cable jointing.
