TOP 10 DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:
Fair warning - Defenses are very hard to predict. There is the rough estimate, but when it comes to their exact rankings it is very difficult, so give or take a few places when looking at this list.
Now getting into it, the Jaguars are the obvious number one choice after being dominant last season and going into this season not losing any of their major stars. The loss of Posluszny will hurt, but not nearly enough to bump them down a spot. As for the rest of the top 5, they all finished in the top 5 last season except for the Vikings, who finished 12th. Why such a jump this year then? Well they actually finished first in total defense last year, but a lack of touchdowns (1) and fumble recoveries (5) impeded their fantasy value. They are almost guaranteed to improve on both of those categories, and the offseason addition of Sheldon Richardson sure doesn’t hurt.
The Baltimore Ravens take the biggest drop falling to ninth after finishing second last season. This is basically for the same reason as the Vikings, just the opposite direction. The Ravens had an absurd amount of interceptions (22) and were tied for the second most touchdowns (7). It is going to be hard to put up those same numbers again, and with an aging core of Terrell Suggs and Eric Weddle the Ravens are bound to take a step back, at least fantasy wise.
As for the rest of the list, it is compiled of some of the defenses that look the best heading into the season, by no means is it a guarantee that they finish top 10. These ten are simply the ones with the best chance to do so in our eyes. So when the final rounds come on draft day and you have no idea who to take, hopefully this list can help point you in the right direction.
