It was leg day on the training plan today and we are currently doing base training = high reps, high sets with minimal rest between sets.
I find particular on leg days after using major muscle groups and many of them...4 in the quads, 3 in the hamstrings and 3 in the glutes plus we also did biceps, shoulders and abs in shorter sets.
So, all up a lot of muscles both major and minor where used today and burning a lot of fuel during and for many hours post workout.
Directly after a workout I test my blood glucose levels and today they were 6.5 and I always have a raw purple rice protein shake mixed with green coconut water = 20g carb and 17.5g protein and 1.6g fat, which I bolus 1 unit of humalog for.
Then about an hour later I have a post workout meal either a veg based like mushrooms, potato, beans and avo or a purely fruit based meal like today with a long black organic espresso with a dash of coconut cream.
Both usually equal about 65g of carb.
Today this fruit bowl of banana, apple, goji and blueberries, watermelon, coconut and sunflower seeds with the coffee cane to 64g of carb.
My BGL pre meal 5.9 which I bolused 4 units of humalog and post meal BGL was 5.9 2 hours later.
I will have to pay close attention for the next 2 meals making sure that I don’t over bolus with my metabolism firing.
Note...fruit and carbs are not a diabetes enemy. The more fruit I eat the less insulin I require. They are full of so many nutrients, vitamins, minerals and healing goodness so eat them up.
However you must keep the fat low.
#highcarb approx 200+grams per day
And depending on what training I’m doing between 1300-2000 cals.
After many years of body building and running a personal training biz in the past plus health coaching I am not meticulous about weighing and measuring everything because I’m not training to compete right now.
However, I have I do log everything I consume, carb totals and all training.
Each week I weigh, measure and take a photo and then reassess from there depending on results.
Sunday is day 7 and active rest and test/measure day.
Results to be posted then.
