The plant world never ceases to amaze me. Just when you think you've seen it all, something new and unexpected comes onto your radar and blows you away. Take this red pineapple, Ananas Pacifico, for instance. Pineapples should be yellow, right? Not this one! With strappy, bronze leaves, this exotic houseplant will only grow to 30cms tall and is not actually grown for the fruit, but it is apparently edible so long as it's ripe.
Pineapples are native to South America and are said to have originated from the area between southern Brazil and Paraguay. As a tropical fruit, it's grown commercially in Brazil, Costa Rica and the Philippines.
As a houseplant, this variety requires little or no maintenance. Water regularly, keeping the soil moist at all times. They also like a little water in the centre rosette of the plant where the leaves form together, where it will remain in the funnel-shaped bract. It's preferable to use rain water or lime-free water. Plant food is unnecessary and the ideal temperature should be between 16-24 degrees centigrade.
I think this could be a star in any indoor jungle, so why not give it a go? #pineapple #redpineapple #indoorjungle #houseplants #houseplantsofinstagram #houseplantsclub #houseplantsmakemehappy #houseplantsofig #bromiliad #exoticplants #exoticplant #plantsofig #plants #plantstagram #plantsofinsta #plantsofinstagram #lumixgx7 #micro43rds #micro4nerds
