The truth of the matter is that, no matter what “diet” you’re following, macronutrients matter. •Your Fad Diet, is based on macronutrients (yes, even whole 30 has portions of protein/carbs/fats) •If you want to lose weight, you will eventually need to pay attention to protein/carbs/fats once your metabolism adapts and you can’t drop your calories any lower •Want to maintain or gain muscle to help your metabolism stay strong as you age? You can’t simply wish that those random calories will be turned into lean body mass - you’ll need to insure you’re consuming enough.....protein/carbs/fats 😬 •If you’ve figured out a way for your body to not follow the laws the physics, lemme know. •See last comment...You’re not a superhero. Sorry. •Blogs, Facebook posts, Bikini competitors who’ve done a single show, Instagram pages with a billion followers because of their abs/big ole booty, nor your mother (sorry, mom) are going to give you a solid understanding of why you can’t ignore Macronutrients...clean eating isn’t enough (don’t shoot the messenger!) you CAN over consume “clean foods” and not lose weight. 6 months of consistency with the best coach ever @hillary.ervin ❤️ Best part: there’s only like a 3-4 lb difference between the two photos. Read: #gainz 💪🏻
In the last 6 months I’ve learned;
✨ Under-eating will not get you where you want to be, and it does more damage than good. ✨ Carbs are not the enemy, and my body actually really, really likes them. ✨ On that note, even though I love nut butter, my body doesn’t need nearly as much fat as I was putting in to it. ✨ Paleo does not need to be synonymous with high fat. ✨ Meal timing actually matters.
Excited to for the next 6 months, and a little increase in my macros to hopefully start putting on some more muscle mass 🤞🏻🙏🏻

* You go hard on your diet trying to lose 2 pounds a week and get to the weekend starved.

* You have no plan or structure on the weekend. Combine that with an empty stomach after 4-5 days of feeding yourself way less than your body needs — even way less than it needs to create sustainable fat loss.

* And then combine that with your friends having plans for you.

* “Let’s go for wine”

* “Let’s go for tacos”.

Got sick while I was out of town but now I’m finally feeling about 80% after a couple days of smoothies and soup. If this breakfast looks strange it’s because I put some parmesan cheese and hard boiled eggs in a skillet and fried them up in the leftover sausage fat. I think they look like eggs in a little nest, pretty cute and tasty!

As a personal trainer one of the very first things that I do, is take the time to educate my clients on the importance of nutrition⭐️ We SHOULD all know that nutrition is super important to building curves and muscle💪 Aside from training hard in the gym, you MUST eat well to put on lean mass (this is the same for those focusing on weight loss or maintaining current conditions).
A good diet that consists of healthy starches, fats and protein is critical to muscle building🥦🍗 The bottom line is..... if you are trying to build some curves & grow a nicer bum, you need to eat!! Of course, this doesn’t mean to go and eat pizza🍕, hamburgers 🍔 & chocolate. We must fuel our bodies with the RIGHT foods in order to put on the RIGHT type of weight (lean muscle mass!)
Ideally you want to work out your lower body and complete glute building exercises 2 to 3 days a week.
I find that those who hit legs (with glute specific exercises) more frequently, are more likely to get faster results😊
This picture is a great representation of how my body responded to a tailored meal plan including macronutrients vs a calorie deficit diet. On the left I was barely consuming calories throughout the day, spiking my blood sugar through juice or a quick bite, would get light headed half way through my workouts, felt super fatigued all of the time. Eating healthy on the go can be a challenge if you don’t know what to look for. Today we are taking a closer look at macro-friendly alternatives to breakfast options at @starbucks. ✨

While a real yogurt parfait sounds like a healthy idea, it’s loaded with honey and granola bringing the total sugar to 30g in 1 serving of an otherwise healthy option. A better choice would be a spinach feta wrap which has slightly more protein, but contains more fiber and significantly less sugar.

In college I used to mindlessly order blueberry scones all the time but they are very high in carbs at 61g, pretty high in fat at 22g, and low in protein at 7g. A healthier option would be the hearty blueberry oatmeal and adding a scoop of the protein of your choice to this decent source of fiber and low fat meal.

Again, none of these options are BAD, there are better ways to budget your macros on the go and these are some easy go-to options when you are on the run ✅

Kodiak pancakes never looked so good!! 😍 #EatTheRainbow
Instead of regular pancake mix I use the Kodiak high protein pancake mix (found at Costco) 1/2c dry mix with almost 1/2c water. Mix & make pancakes just like any other instant mix! Next I spread 1/2 of one single serving Greek Fage yogurt evenly over 3 pancakes. Slice up your favorite fruits and stack the layers. This beautiful plate is loaded with 🥝 kiwi, mango, strawberry 🍓, blackberry & blueberries. All this for only 355 calories & 28 g proteins ! ☺️
Tip:
I microwave most of the blueberries to give me a natural syrup. 😉

Key factors of training to failure

1: Greater increases in lactic acid, which is known to be critical for muscle growth. As well you will experience significant cell swelling as a result, which your cells sense as a threat to survival. Their only option is to thus become both larger & stronger or face the risk death/injury

2: As you fatigue the smaller/slow twitch muscle fibres during your set, the body will sense the challenge it's faced with in order to complete the work load imposed. The response by the body is to activate more of your fast twitch muscle fibers to complete the work, the ones known for their greater growth potential. Doing so allows you to then tax these fibres and cause trauma, which ultimately will lead to more muscular adaptation occuring

Some key points to note. You don't want to goto failure on all working sets, doing so taxes your central nervous system to the point that subsequent set intensity will diminish. It has also been shown that taking all working sets to failure will actually suppress anabolic growth factors(like IGF-1). My recommendation is to pyramid weight up with each working set until your final set, leave about 2-3 reps in the tank on prior sets leading up to this point. On your final set aim to be within 1-2 reps of your target rep range, so if the goal is to hit 8 reps, it's fine to fail between 6-10reps.... if you nail weight selection perfectly you'll hit failure on the head at 8

I made @greengiant riced cauliflower and sweet potato per package directions and followed the package directions for making it sweet&spice by adding brown sugar & cinnamon. Thought it would be good for my kiddos as it would make it taste sweeter. It was great! & both kiddos approved! 🤗
