Change Your Perspective This year we started Balint groups, where we talk about cases not in terms of medical management but instead emotional processing. How it works is one student presents a case that has stuck with them for some reason to the group. The group has the opportunity to ask clarifying questions and then the person who presented the case steps back and listens to the group discuss any and all possibilities to understand the difficult nature of each case. The person who presented the case is then invited back to join the discussion. Balint groups have really helped my class ease the transition into 3rd year and to understand our role as future physicians. Does your school have Balint? If not, you can always work with your school to start them!
