Today we’d like share with everyone the importance of proper breathing. 😌
We refer to breath as “prana” or in yogic terms, “life force”. The process of inhale+exhale demonstrates one’s prana passing through the body, resulting in a truth that we call, “So’hum”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So’hum literally means, “I am”. Therefore, when we practice meditation and proper breathing, we go deep into the So’hum, where we unite with the soul and attain peace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 1: Find a comfortable seated position. Sit up tall and expand your chest, do not use the back of a chair or wall for support.
Step 2: Place your right hand over your chest, and your left hand over your belly button. Allow the hands to simply rest.
Step 3: Inhale deeply, and allow both your chest AND abdominals to relax / expand. Allow your hands to feel the expansion, and yourself to feel the prana moving throughout the body and expanding the chest in all directions, and feel the abdominal cavity indirectly expanding as well due to the diaphragm’s downward movement. Exhale, allowing chest and abdominals to return to their neutral position. You’ll notice that inhaling produces a “So” sound, while exhaling produces a “Hum” sound.
Step 4: Repeat 9-12 breaths. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Benefits: allows the mind to become quiet in order to achieve proper meditation, pacifies stressful and anxious emotions.
