This iconic tree produces welcome shade in the extreme temperatures of Australia, but it also has an ominous nickname, "widow maker", as they have a habit of dropping large boughs without warning. They provide welcome nest hollows for native wildlife and may live for 700 years! #Penfolds magic is founded in the diverse and rich wine regions of South Australia, where every bottle starts its story. I’ve been quiet on Instagram the last several days because I’ve been very sick. I’m in Salta, Argentina and I came down with a very bad cold when I was in Patagonia. I was caught out in the rain while hiking on a glacier. Toss in the cold temperatures and high winds and viola!……sick.

I’m attending the Adventure Travel World Summit here in Salta and when not at the event, I’ve spent almost all my time in my hotel room sleeping and trying to recover.

End result? Not a lot of activity on Instagram.

I’m feeling much better now, however. Still have a bit of a cough, but other than that, the major symptoms are gone.

I’m here in Salta for 3 more nights and then I head back to US. I’ll be home in Minneapolis for 6 days before I head to Portland, Oregon for another conference. After that I head to London for what I hope will be my last big conference of the year. If you are in Portland or London, let me know if you’d like to meet up.

The Duel | Photograph by Sonalini Khetrapal (@photography.nona)
“The open and arid landscape of Etosha National Park in Namibia is truly stunning. The goal of my trip was to photograph zebras with their striking coats across this backdrop,” writes Your Shot photographer Sonalini Khetrapal. “A herd of zebras arrived at the waterhole to quench their thirst. Suddenly there was chaos and thick dust clouds blinding our vision. Within moments, two male zebras emerged from the dust, landing blows at each other with their hooves and heads. The duel only lasted a few minutes, but it gave me an opportunity to capture this heavily charged moment.”

“I love connecting with people,” says documentary photographer Samyukta Lakshmi (@samlaks). “I think it’s a privilege when people open up their lives to you and let you tell their story through photos.”
Samyukta is currently on the ground in her hometown of Bangalore, India, for the five-day #Diwali festival, a Hindu holiday celebrated throughout the world. “Diwali is the festival of lights,” she explains. “It is the celebration of good over evil, light over darkness.”

Hydra by night. A perfect long weekend getaway. In mid-September, the heat backs off and the water is still warm. A long trek or two gives good coverage of the island. Food is excellent, especially if fish and seafood are your thing and you don't mind feta, local cheeses, and Greek wine. Throw in an afternoon boat ride along the southwestern shore, a few dips in the Gulf of Hydra, some late afternoon strolls and a lie-in or two and you'll have the makings for a perfect shoulder/mid-season break.
