Food isn’t always on my mind anymore - custard danish from Duo Patisserie. We kicked into super money saving mode a long time ago, which means that a lot of our meals aren’t beautifully instagrammable. I’m also spending a lot of time thinking about wedding things than where to get my next Instagram shot, hence the further lack of posts. We’ve been tending towards our favorites when we go out lately and Duo ranks high on our list for an afternoon treat. First time having this castard danish and it’s very yummy. The pastry is crunchy on top and moist and flaky inside in classical Duo style. The custard is creamy with just the right amount of sweetness and vanilla flavour. I have yet to try something from this Patisserie that I don’t like. You always have to go early though. I showed up just before 2pm and they were already sold out of their butter croissants and almond croissants (our faves).
[Chingu Friend Korean BBQ] Bulgogi and Kalbi is always a good idea! Was craving for some bulgogi so we found this place. It was delicious and service was good as well. The rice cakes was watery and got dry quick. The only sucky part was that I went to the car to get change to tip them and the server went to my boyfriend and said we didn’t leave her a tip.. Also googled this place afterwards and seen a bad review left by an ex-employee. Not sure if I’d ever come back here even though the food was good.

Finally found my way over the bridge to try @daguricenoodle version of the Yunnan cuisine Original Crossing the Bridge rice noodle dish ($9.49). The story goes that this dish was created when a loving wife decided to keep the elements of the dish separate during her journey across the bridge to her husband who was busy studying. This was to avoid the noodles and other ingredients from becoming bloated in the boiling soup. Right before she got to her husband, she would combine the ingredients so that he could enjoy the freshly made dish as intended. I actually didn't know this story before I tried the dish so I didn't know what to expect. As I was eating with a group of people it was a little confusing as to what was included with my dish. I suppose I should have asked for a bit of clarification from the server or it would have been helpful if they made sure each person got what they ordered. Pictured is what I believe comes with the dish I ordered. The broth came piping hot and it was delicious with the noodles (which comes with unlimited refills though I was too full to take advantage of this). I didn't get to taste much of the sides due to the confusion mentioned so I didn't get the full experience of the dish. I would still like to order this again one day but maybe I'll head to a different restaurant next time (6/10).
Ate it - @sams.congee.delight— carbs carbs carbs - who doesn’t love carbs? I got wind that this beloved Market Village staple was relocating here long before the sign went up. Truth be told, I’m surprised to see the sign go up over the the larger unit instead of the smaller still vacant unit at this strip plaza. I drove by it almost daily anticipating the opening and finally braved the lineup. 25 minutes in line is plenty of time to observe - people watch. Another thing I like to do. Lol.
I like how spacious it is inside - a big difference compared to the old location.
Considering how big the restaurant is though, there aren’t that many seats... the table and chairs are not space efficient... intentional?
There are a lot of workers all are busy fetching things from the back to the customers or making things in the open kitchen. Lots of wasted steps to and from... how tired the people would be at the end of the day I wonder?
The food taste is about the same and price point seems acceptable all things considered but is there value? Depends..... Honestly, I wonder how the business side of things would work out in the long run.... If the rent doesn’t kill, the labour will... I have my reservations about this one. Only time will tell I guess. Good luck! .
Was @koishi_to actually oishii?
Melon Pan with Matcha icream (of course). On one hand I’m sooo happy to see more Japanese cafes opening in Toronto! On the other hand, just coming from Japan it’s hard for me not to be selective.
The ice cream had a strong matcha taste and gave the "matcha rush" that I love. However, it lacked texture. It was more icy than creamy. Getting the right consistency with matcha is not an easy task imo. The ice creams are created by the same group of people behind other popular ice cream shops. I hope they improve the consistency because such great matcha flavor deserves a better texture and that will make it complete.
Now to the melon pan. It tasted too sweet and lacked aroma of a fresh pan. I tried all kinds of melon pans in Japan from cheap convenience store quality to high-end cafes and I had the actual melon flavored ones so was expecting melon flavor. But traditionally melon pan doesn't have to be melon flavored. It looked adorable though.
This weekend (Saturday and Sunday) we will be at the Toronto Chinatown Festival all day! Don’t forget that we also have our pop-up location open everyday until the 19th. So whether you are uptown or downtown, you can get your ice cream burritos to go before the summer ends!
No matter what time of day, Ramona's Kitchen fills your mouth with the freshest tastes.
Chicken sandwich from @cafebonbon_to : 🥪 this sandwich was disappointing to say the least...the “pesto” made the bottom slice of bread completely soggy with grease. The brie was non-existent, and the cheapy slice of prosciutto added nothing except funky pork smell.
Perhaps use a crustier bread, bulk up your pesto, use a thicker slice of Brie, and don’t heat up the prosciutto. Make sure the apple is crisp and tart to add that balance. While we’re at it, lessen up the thyme on that chicken. The only redeeming this about this plate was the salad. ♀️ Haven’t had a good sandwich in a while - it’s not that hard, people! #yelp#phoneeatsfirst#foodiegram#eatwithme#richmondhill#richmondhilleats#markham#markhameats#cafebonbon#foodie#dinewithme
Butcher’s sandwich from @joeyrestaurants - saw a lot of people order this - sandwich is piled high with roast beef, but it would’ve benefitted from some greens (maybe arugula) and brie or something. I get that it’s supposed to be a meat sandwich, but it needs some finesse. Maybe add some grainy mustard or a horseradish spread or something. ♀️ Also I got charged extra when I asked for garlic mayo wtf : 2.5/5
When at @cacao70 order the Earl Grey Dipped Ice-cream. The dip is definitely on the sweet side but has a strong earl grey flavour!
