This is a photo from the 4700 block of Franklintown Rd, the location where Albertus Nelson was killed on December 7th at 10:46pm. He is homicide # 287 in Baltimore in 2018. This is the 1st homicide in the Franklintown neighborhood this year, but the 3rd homicide in Leakin Park
About the Block: This block is an area of Leakin Park that is actually listed as lying somewhere between Eagle Dr. and Franklintown Rd. Because of the strange postal designation, it was hard to find this place, but if you search for directions to 4700 Franklintown Rd, the GPS will take you here, so I just went with it. This section of Leakin Park contains the grounds of the Outward Bound Baltimore school, a non-profit that educates and enriches students through experiential outdoor activities. The grounds also contain the photographed Friends of Orianda House. This house was constructed in 1856 by Thomas Winans who once owned a 300-acre estate that surrounded this building. I can’t express enough how fortunate we are to have Leakin Park within our city limits. Please visit this park. In terms of the wildness of the landscape, it is actually one of the more impressive urban parks in the US. Maybe if we appreciate these spaces more, the worst among us will stop using it as a place to do evil. There’s no reason that Leakin Park can’t be as nice as Rock Creek Park in DC, but our mentality needs to change .
About the Victim: On a Friday night, Albertus was found in this area inside of Leakin Park suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 58 years old. Rest peacefully Albertus 🙏🏽 .
