Mental health is one of the biggest issues in the entertainment industry, and thankfully it's something we're slowly being made aware of. A quick look at the stats via MEAA.org just proves how many performers don't, and can't, take proper care of themselves. It's hard, it is not easy to keep up rehearsals/training/shows especially under the financial (and sometimes social) strain we find ourselves under. Thankfully MEAA's Equity Wellness team has created online information packs to help advise performers on how to keep themselves healthy and well.
These little steps are incredibly important in creating a healthier industry in Australia.
Take half an hour for yourself each day, debrief, let your emotions get to you if you need, stay organised so you can relax! For people under 25 Headspace offers free psychological help, and there are various community mental health teams around Australia too.
At the end of the day, you are your own business. Some days your body just won't be up to working, and that's okay, but the healthier you are the less likely it is that'll happen.
Take care of yourself! Get into classes, make sure you're getting enough sleep, don't go out and party if it'll greatly affect you the next day, spend a day out of the house and catch up with those old friends. You are worth it!
Also, Women's Day is coming up, who's marching in Melbourne or Sydney?
