Wiigwaasaatig The Birch Tree
Birch is often called the "Mother Tree" because it was the pioneer species after the Ice Age. It moved in on the devastated land, grew quickly, and rotted to leave fertile ground for more species to emerge.
It has given itself in countless ways since... As shelter, transportation, medicine, food, as a means of communication.
To make bowls, boats, houses, paper, buckets, furniture, flour, tools, jewelry, and instruments.
The entire tree can be consumed as medicine or food, and the sap- to drink.
Birch is known as the Giving Tree by many indigenous cultures...it is fertile, its wood is soft for making bowls and receptacles, like the womb of a woman.
It recycles itself to give life to the plants around it, the ground beneath it, and those who listen, accept, and utilize its gifts. #birch #birchtree #nature #natureswonder #plants #chaga #medicine #naturalmedicine #indigenous #ojibwe #trees #medicinal #giftsofnature #healing #fertility #sacred
