In the Amazon in Brazil some Indian communities are very isolated and continue to live their centuries old lifestyle. Most of them - but not all, it is estimated that there are between 20 to 40 uncontacted groups of people - have had contact with the outside world, but prefer to stay as they were in their territories, where outsiders can only enter, if they have an anthropological permit, which is hard to get. One of these groups is the Kayapo. They are fiercewarriors and feared by many other indian tribes. The men used to have lipplates, made of wood and painted in red. Even though the younger generation does not insert lipplates anymore, they still have a little hole below their underlip, it is their second mouth, as you need 2 mouths to speak the truth. They paint theirbodies meticously in blueish black (genipap) and red (uruku) and adorn themselves with colourfull feathers of ara parrots. They shave part of their hair. The red colour is meant to make them look even more frightening.
