Appearance: Deep and dark, super ripe cherry, fading out to a crystalline rim of raspberry.
Nose: Upon opening, we were struck by how young this wine smelt, with noticeable alcohol. After an hour or so it had settled and expressed notes of intense cassis, jammy plums with a hint of beechwood smoke and leather.
Palate: The palate followed this nose, medium bodied but incredibly bold, revealing a juicy palate of black cherries, liquorice and blue fruits before closing with lashings of tobacco and oak. This finish is underpinned by dusty and tannic finish.
Our first crack at this interesting Argentinian varietal and we were quite impressed. It displays regional characteristics with integrity. It displayed commendable potential for aging and the flaws of this wihe make one wonder, in the words of seminal 1980s band Dragon, 'are you old enough?'. We'd love to revisit this drop again in a few years time.
