Mercyful Fate - Into The Unknown LP (Metal Blade Records, 1996/2016)
I've been talking about Into The Unknown's importance for me a few weeks ago. Here we have it know - and besides being the initial record for my passionate admiration of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate it's just one of the best albums of the King's discography in general!
Actually there's not much to say about Into The Unknown. It's the logical continuation of classics like Don't Break The Oath from '84 or younger material like In The Shadows from 1993. The music might be little less aggressive, a bit darker and more stagy (quite comparable to easier King Diamond stuff). But the most important fact is that this record is stuffed with hits, hits, hits! Of course there's the fantastic The Uninvited Guest (likely my personal all-time fav heavy metal song) the haunting Listen To The Bell, the creeping Fifteen Men or the progressive yet damn heavy titletrack. It's simply an amazing album delivering peak level entertainment, which is so characteristic for Kim Bendix Peterson and his fellow musicians.
This orange (and little red marbled) vinyl edition on Metal Blade Records was released two years ago, comes with a poster of the (well, pretty boring) artwork and is limited to 200 handnumbered copies. Another step taken on my mission for a full King Diamond-related record collection.
