I cannot agree with this more. I’ve slowly started to unfollow anyone who makes me feel inadequate or Long for a life which I don’t have. I’m tempted to remove a couple more that make me feel like I don’t have enough money. over the years I have started to use IG as a magazine for inspiration on clothing trends, insight into sales and promo codes etc which has been super handy but some of the accounts I follow clearly belong to very well off women who are able to spend a small fortune on new designer clothes all the time. No disrespect to these women I think they’re Super lucky and have also worked hard to create a huge following but every time I watch their stories I feel this urge to shop and buy more stuff which frankly I do not need. Press pause. Soak it all up.

I have a jam-packed weekend on the horizon. This used to stress me out but I've gotten much better at rolling with it lately.
Part of what's helped me is getting really present. When I have something to do on the weekend, I do it. And no matter what's going on, I take at least a half hour to unplug, get outside and really appreciate a bit of ease.
Even if I don't have time for a hike, I go for a walk, dig around in my garden or take my kids to the park and just sit in awe of how present and joyful they are.

As a rule of thumb, I avoid eating at least 2-3 hours before yoga practice and 30 minutes after yoga. However, listen to what your body needs. If you feel light-headed right before yoga, it’s ok to eat a handful of nuts. Likewise, if you feel exhausted in this heat post the session, drink some coconut water. Saturday Farmers Market, my favourite day of the week ✨🌾🥕 Two weeks ago, I went to the premiere of the @ozharvest documentary “Food Fighters” (out now) and it really struck a cord with me. There’s one sentence in particular that has been playing in my head over and over again: “Every time we throw away food, we throw away fuel, energy, water. It’s all interconnected.” I couldn’t agree more. Here are a couple of things I see all the time that piss me off: • People ordering way too much at restaurants • Said people not doggy bagging their left overs (I know you think you’re too cool and stuff, but c’moooon) • All-you-can-eat buffets that basically invite people to overload their plates with stuff they’re not going to finish anyways

Can you tell how delighted I am when this young man in the video says that Yoga makes him happy? He is one of several people I’ve met just in the last few weeks with stories revolving around yoga and meditation. People from all walks of life.

I met a veteran whose first turning point in life in his forties happened when he went to India with the peace corps and discovered meditation. This is after a troubled childhood, being a delinquent youth, serving in the Vietnam War, having most of his troupe killed in an air strike accident and being filled with anger towards his father and life in general.
🤯
I met a cab driver who was a software professional for over two decades and with his awareness through meditation, realised the job-related stress was not healthy and that he wasn’t pursuing his passion. So he quit, starting driving a cab and pursuing his passion of producing music.
🎶
And then I met this young man who discovered Yoga when he went to Indonesia for kickboxing training when he was 15. The encounter with me reminded him of what Yoga gave him and I’m happy he left wanting to bring it back into his life.

I came home from work most days this week feeling a little off balance about how much I care about what I do and how unsure I am at times that I’m bringing all the pieces together. Thankfully I spend my days with kids who turn cardboard into castles and dream up stories about misunderstood dragons named Kraug.

Something I notice a lot is the tendency to use positive life styles and mentalities like a fad. With levels of intensity that are astonishing, and an unforgiving leaning towards "checking" people who just aren't having that great a day. As someome who struggles daily with diagnosed mental health issues. I do my best to walk the positive mindset path, but that doesn't mean I reject my negative thoughts or emotions. Rejecting them, stiffling them, or pretending like you dont have them only makes things harder on you in the long run. Negative thoughts and emotions matter. I practice mindfulness techniques to help myself process them rather then ignore the problem and feed my demons. Happy Solstice everyone. Two years ago 🌻

We were in Maui

There is this famous road that is deemed one of the most stunning drives 🌴 and it was!
The road to Hana 🚘

The drive itself is adventurous and nerve racking but if you get to caught up in getting to the destination you miss the beauty 🌴

If you stick to the road and don’t adventure off the path you miss the beauty 🌈
If you stay in your car, you miss the beauty.

We were totally un prepared for this trip with barely enough fuel in the tank, inappropriate footwear and barely any food or water we had every reason to stay in the car.

For me, this little adventure was such a parallel with business and life.

We get so crystal clear on the end destination or goal, we miss the beauty.

We get so focused on preparing ourselves we miss the beauty.

We get so consumed with controlling how things should look, we miss the beauty.

I hope this gives you a little perspective shift like it did me, to savour the unplanned, the challenges, the detours and pit stops along the way. ⭐️Because when age eventually catches up with us all, you don’t want to realize then that you’ve totally missed the point 🌟

One more thing that we made for the meditation teacher training: velvety coconut lemongrass green soup, with a topping of chickpeas, quinoa, cauliflower and basil. A smooth soup deserves a topper, to add texture, nutrition, and joy. When cooking Ayurvedically for trainings and retreats, it is especially important to minimize the use of rajasic foods - foods that heat the body and agitate the mind - like onions and garlic - so there is none of that here! I think it also helps when your food is a soothing and beautiful green colour 😉

As much as I love sharing recipes, food and health tips, I think my favourite thing to share is ways to reduce food waste. I’ve gotten a lot better at minimizing my waste over the past year or two but I’m still far from perfect. I know how hard it can be, so I want to share with you guys whenever I come across new ideas.

I use the majority of my veggie scraps and wilting veggies for broths but unfortunately old avocados don’t have much place in a broth. So the next time you have extra avocados that are about to go -and we all know this happens in a matter of hours with avocado 😜😂🥑 - smash them into silicone ice cube trays and freeze them to pop into smoothies! If you have yet to try avocado in smoothies, get on it! They add no flavour but give your smoothie a delicious, creamy consistency and the perfect dose of healthy fats!

I am a mom with two beautiful boys, we have a dog, two snakes, and a lizard.
And I have the best husband in the world.
I’m telling you all of this because I am a human being. While the facts sound great on paper the reality is every day brings on challenges.
Some days I just want to curl up in a ball and cry while other days I want to laugh and sing.
The truth of it all is life is hard and it hit me really hard 5 years a go when I fell into depression from an over does of anxiety.

I was actually breathing and I felt so much lighter.

Eid is about celebration. And that means calling all your friends and family to share in the joy - and realising just how few people I’ve interacted with lately. I had to search for phone numbers, figure out who would be where and with whom so I could coordinate and talk to as many people as possible. At one point, I basically gave up and just followed my husband around so I could tag on to the ends of his conversations. He is a lot better at staying in touch with people than I am - which is weird for me, because people often think that I’M the social one.

Inspired by artists like @liliarnoldstudios and @chicnawdie, I’ve decided to channel my outrage over the incomprehensible injustices happening in this country into my art. I often struggle to find the words or a way to help in such morally and emotionally volatile times, but putting my feelings into creating comes naturally.
