Lets learn a little bit about root chakra imbalance.
Root chakra is the chakra of stability, security and our basic needs. It controls our survival energy, our animalistic nature. It is the chakra of matter.
Root chakra imbalance symptoms are mistrust, restlessness, anxiety, panic, worry, depression, frustration, resentment, anger/rage, insecurity, poor focus, negative thinking.
When root chakra flows freely it helps us increase the sense of belonging and self worth. It allows us to live with courage, resourcefulness during challenging times.

I remember sitting on a stool at a bar that smelled liked sewage and old sweat. I felt a tenseness in my chest and ignored it with another glug of my drink. UGHHH I donโ€™t want to go to work tomorrow!! I thought of how freeing and glorious my weekend was. The weather was perfect and I spent most of it outside either on a patio or listening to live music. I was constantly surrounded by friends that had me cracking up. Not a care or responsibility in the world, I was livingggg.

This Sunday afternoon was the perfect example of what I felt on a weekly basis, the S U N D A Y S C A R I E S. Why was I scared for the work week? I know I would crush every challenge and curve ball thrown at me.

When I look back at this time in my life, it was clear that my lack of routine was causing me anxiety every week. I lacked a stable routine that didnโ€™t fall through the cracks on the weekends and, honestly, was inconsistent during the week too. This lack of certainty was causing me major anxiety. I started altering my morning routines and bringing consciousness to my eating habits with the science of Ayurveda. Very simple changes that were so profound. For the first time, in a long time, I wasnโ€™t making references to the โ€œSunday Scariesโ€, I was GUILT FREE. Even more significant, I was noticing CHANGES in my digestion, and soon after, I received my first period after a 3 year hiatus.

Why should warm water be your new beverage of choice?

Digestion is the key to optimal health in Ayurveda. Therefore, our digestive fire or Agni is our sacred, golden goddess ๐ŸŒž. In order to keep her glowing in all her beauty, she needs her daily dose of sunshine. Too much sunshine will burn her beautiful skin to a crisp. Too much icy snow will take away her glow. And we all know that a golden goddess needs her glow, so she can continue to take over the world.

Get the analogy? Too much cold water or hot water will weaken our digestive fire/Agni and cause digestion problems. And if we got digestive problems, weโ€™ve got multiple PROBLEMS. It is best to sip warm water gradually throughout your day to keep your Agni stoked. Yes- even after a steamy workout.

So next time you are at your fave vegan- friendly restaurant, ask politely for a spot of warm water and opt out of the ice water. This month I have been focusing intensely on my personal connection with Ayurveda. I LOVE working one on one with clients and teaching Ayurveda in group settings. But as a healer, I needed to reconnect back to what Ayurveda means to me.

I canโ€™t begin to express how much this deep inner work has opened up my heart and self- compassion. As a Pitta dominant dosha, I experience anger and frustration which internalizes as self-criticism and judgement. I feel a huge weight has lifted off my shoulders and although I am still not perfect, I am much more aware when thoughts of judgment arise.

The science works to heal physical imbalances which intuitively heals your mind and soul. Most importantly, it is sustainable and as long as you trust it, it will support you in every way.

Rachel and I set out to create @soulfullveda to make Ayurveda more tangible and accessible, because we experience its healing powers every day and believe everyone should too.

We are in the last phase of the cleanse, can I get a hell ya? This phase of the cleanse is about rebuilding the tissues and ojas/energy of the body with deep awareness. Take careful note that post cleanse still means cleanse! The body is going to be cleansing for the next couple of weeks or so and it is important to support it. The best way to support it is by slowly reintroducing foods each week. After fasting on kitchari for a week, the easiest dish for our bodies to digest, our bodies need to time to build the stamina for harder to digest foods.

Like all things Ayurveda, this part of the cleanse is unique to each person. The main signs of knowing when someone is ready to introduce new foods is evaluating their pulse for ojas/energy and tongue for ama and swelling.

I anticipated this part being the most difficult part of the cleanse, but I feel like absolute bliss. Every day, I start to integrate something new back into my diet and my gratitude explodes. Plain jane GF oats for breakfast, oh my gawd, lay it on me! The cleanse has given me the discipline and patience to s l o w d o w n, which seemed impossible three weeks ago. And although this is still a work in progress for me, I am highly sensitive and aware of how my choices (not just diet) affect my energy. Stay tuned to hear how the cleanse has shifted me on a spiritual level!

There are so many variations of an Ayurvedic cleanse, but we are taking you through a traditional at-home Pancha Karma with a Pitta focus.

The Prep/Purva Karma
๐ŸŒฑEliminate gluten, dairy, alcohol, fried foods, sugar, coffee from your diet

The Techniques/Pradna Karma
๐ŸŒฑDaily intake of ghee/Oleation
๐ŸŒฑMono diet of Kitchari with vegetables

๐ŸŒฑFollowed by daily steam/Swedana

Most of our Western cleanses follow something similar to Week 1. An Ayurvedic cleanse goes even deeper to eliminate toxins that have been built up in the system for years!
