Every time I go out to @hayespublichouse I’m reminded how stupid it is that I only get out as often as I do.
I jumped in with the Black Currant Ale which splashed on the tongue like a tart cannonball. If you ain’t awake, it’ll get you there. It reminds me a lot of a cranberry cocktail and seems like a shot of vodka would nail it. Definitely a lakeside choice for the rest of the summer.
Then, of course, the powerful aroma of the Peanut Butter Oatmeal Stout drew me in and proved itself worthy with a hearty “milk from your Sunday bowl of Reese’s Puff’s” flavor. Really good.
When there’s a Russian Imperial Stout on the menu, you try it. And at HPH, damned if it ain’t worth every sip. Dark, heavy... one of the hardest hitters from previous visits and definitely a highlight from this one.
The other two, which seem to me to be their marque beers, outside of stoutsville, are the Apple Ale and the Wee Heavy. Both delicious, the Apple Ale doing that apple beer thing where you start thinking that they’re better than any straight cider you’ve had, and the Wee Heavy which makes you question the validity of any WH you’ve had before.
Without even getting into the awesomeness of the space, the proximity to the lake and the solid squad of HPH staff always hanging out, setting the tone, it’s easy to state that Hayes’ is one of the required stops in Minnesota.
