Small exhibition gardens. Project 'Harmony with diagonals' Author: Heidi Hannus, garden designer, Finland. Location: Rozdestvenka Ulitza 7, Moscow
Looking at the map of Moscow city center, streets are doing diagonal lines. spaces are polygons, in different sizes and forms. I wanted to bring modern Moscow to old part of the city. Russians love gardens. When the area to be built and do planting ends at ground level, we can start building vertically. Greenroofs and -walls clean the air and help with storm water problems. Plants in top of greenroof, are reflecting sky and water. Sloping wall is reflecting a waterfall. Hedera helix is falling in front of steps, what are like rocks and painted as silvergray and caramel brown, and there is also mirror plades to make waterfall glitter. Mirror plated areas in standing wall, are placed to reflect sky and plants.
Diagonal lines are the concept of composition in art, which means a bevel or line of colors and shapes. Human motion can be visualized in many ways: through slashes, bending, curving and straight. A vertical element causes the movement to stop. When the movement is repeated in different elements and in different sizes, all of them symbolize the continuation of the movement. Human needs movement and peace. The diagonals are considered to add drama and dynamism to the image. In order to calm the diagonal area, it is done with a harmonious color scheme, with a a small increase of trend colors 2019. Combining contrasts creates an interesting and comfortable space to be.
This garden is easy to placed to small terraced house garden, and i believe this fits well to specially young people, who loves modern feeling in their home. The ceiling is mirror coated, which is fun for taking selfies. This garden shows that even if the space is small, there can be lot of plants and event though it is mix of colorful and harmonius elements and plants, it is still relaxing place to be. Plants are blooming in different period and some of them will change color from green to red or yellow in autumn.
